H.L. Menchen was bored and in a mischievous mood, to liven up his day he wrote a spoof about bathtubs, never believing anyone would take it seriously. Well, to his surprise the story took off. It was printed in newspapers, magazines and learned journals. He printed a retraction but the story had already taken on a life of it’s own. If you ever read this story as a historical fact, remember it’s only a spoof.
