Sheep vs. Goats

Have you ever wondered about the differences between sheep and goats?

My husband raised sheep for a few years.  Selling them to children and their parents to raise and show in State fair shows.  We owned approximately 200 sheep, possessing 200 bellowing baaah’s.  They resided only yards away from our backdoor.  Needless to say there were many sleepless nights.  Trust me counting sheep did not help!

A few years prior to my husband wallowing in sheep wool, “ha ha”.  He purchased for me, a pet baby goat.  I loved that little goat!  I named him Bucky.  As he grew so did his horns.  Bucky would get his head trapped in between one of the wire squares of a livestock panel fence, built to keep him in.  My husband would go out and cut off his horns because Bucky would butte the side of the barn and make big dents in it, and also, to release him from the wire square.  I almost cried!  From then on, I made sure I spotted Bucky 1st when he would get trapped.  Instead of cutting his horns, I cut away the wire stock panel instead!

Continuing with my opinion concerning sheep and goat differences; my sister Jackie was visiting us one day.  She lives in the city, never been around animals except one time.  She asked me, “What is the difference between a sheep and a goat?”  I told her because sheep bellow…Bah, Bah, Bah, and goats bellow…Butt, Butt, Butt, and of course she almost fell over in laughter.  But seriously, I never once heard my goat, Bucky, bellow out a…Bah, Bah, Bah.

  1. Very interesting. I just love goats and sheep. I’m an animal lover.

  2. good piece

  3. Cute story, great humor. I remember when I tried to talk my parents into adopting a baby goat. I was 9. They laughed and told me, “they’re cute when they’re babies, but they’re just old big goats later” I got a pic of me petting the baby goat. Three goats to the left all stood taller than the previous ones. It was the Cingular/AT&T bars before the commercial thoght of it. Thanks for sharing 0;)

  4. Hope you all enjoyed the humor of this piece. Thanks for your inputs.

  5. Great article. My local farmer used to put his sheep in the field at the back of our house so I know what you mean by sleepless nights. Also, a friend of ours had a billy goat to keep her grass down. How he hated me. He used to find it amusing to butt me where a man doesn’t like being butted!

  6. Good article.

If you really want to be scared out of your wits, this is what you do. Walk home from the pub, at night, along a dark country road. Just as you pass a field, have a sheep cough loudly.

I guarantee you will make that last mile home at the speed of a sparrowf**t.

  7. Very intresting. My parents don’t raise goats or sheep but we do have 2 ducks.

  8. I want a baby goat now… very cute story.

  9. LOL only you mom. I miss our sheep…

  10. cute :-)

  11. I did not have a chance to have them because I live in the city. Are they both smelly?
