The most colorful fishes lives in the seas and oceans but some freshwater species are also colorful.
Freshwater aquarium fishes are as colorful as saltwater aquarium fishes but not as difficult to maintain. Here is a list of the most beautiful and colorful freshwater fishes for your tank.
1.) Electric Yellow Cichlid (Labidochromis caeruleus)

The brightly-colored Electric Yellow Cichlid is endemic to the central western coastal region of Nkakta Bay in Lake Malawi in East Africa. In Africa, it is the most popular cichlid amongst aquarium hobbyists. Cichlid is a maternal mouthbrouder, meaning the eggs are carried, hatch, and develop in the mother’s mouth, for about 3 weeks. 2.) Red Lined Torpedo Barb (Puntius denisonii)

The red, black and yellow combination of the Red Lined Torpedo Barb makes it colorful and eye-catching. This subtropical fish originates in fast-flowing hill streams and rivers of Kerala, India. This torpedo shaped fish can attain a maximum length of 15 cm. Other common names of this fish include Roseline Shark, Bleeding Eye Barb and Denison’s Barb.
3.) Boeseman’s Rainbowfish (Melanotaenia boesemani)

The Boeseman’s Rainbowfish is so-named for its bright coloration. It is a species that is endemic to Indonesia and lives in freshwater lakes. It is a prized aquarium pet not only for its excellent colors but also for its peaceful demeanor.
4.) Pearl Gourami (Trichogaster leeri)

Gourami species I’ve seen in the Philippines are merely for human consumption. I never knew that there are colorful Gourami species like the Pearl Gourami. This peaceful fish is a tropical labyrinth fish which is commonly bred and kept as aquarium pets. This beautiful fish originated in the Southeast Asian countries of Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia.
