The Loss of a Best Friend: a Pet

The day my son lost his pet cat.

You know, today, was one of the hardest days for me.  I sat here at home, while my family was all doing their things, and our cat, Eggo, was roaming around here and there, and then she seemed to act a little funny.  She’s been acting a little off for the past couple of months now, and we all know that she is older, and we knew her time may be getting closer.

Eggo, was my youngest son’s best friend.  When his brother and sister moved out due to marriages, I could tell that my son was lonely.  So we went to the pound one day as we were gonna try to find him kitten to raise.  As we looked, they didn’t have any kittens, but they had plenty of other cats.  We looked and we looked, and when he seen this cat, right away, he knew, he wanted her.  She was an older cat, and guess she had been picked up as a stray, so we did not know much about her.  But he feel in love with her right away, as she looked a lot like another cat we had long ago, named Waffles.  So, right away, he told me he wanted this one and he named her Eggo.  He brought her home, and they seemed to take to each other right away, she would always go up and cuddle next to him, and he always seemed to understand what she wanted.  They became best friends.

As the past few years have gone by of course she became older, and he still cared for her.  I could go on and on about how they seemed to love each other as best friends could be between a human and a pet.  But today, that all changed, and not for the best.

Eggo had acted up a little earlier, then after my daughter in law came home, I asked her if Eggo seemed to be walking funny.  She looked at her and agreed, she could not seem to keep her balance and walk straight, we watched and tried to help her as we could, but we both agreed that it might be finally time for her to go.  She continued to get a little worse, then after a few, my daughter in law went to pick up my son at work, and then they were gonna go get some food for all of us.  While they were gone, all of a sudden, she was throwing up, staggering, and she went to lay in a corner and did not get up, she was gone!!!
