Ready for a Dog? Why Not Choose a Rottweiler?

This is a piece that contradicts the bad myths about Rottweiler dogs.
It seems rottweiler dogs have a terrible reputation, at least among my neighbors. However, in my opinion, their bad rep is totally unfounded, just people listening to soundbites that do not know or even like dogs. In fact, I own two rottweilers, and I could not ask for two sweeter pets.
Many people claim “rotts” are a an unpredictable and vicious breed of dog. However, a dogs personality is greatly influenced by their breeder and owner, and how he or she trains and treats them. If you abuse a dog and train it to be mean, chances arethis will show in the dog; the same goes for people. I believe many dogs that are reputed to be dangerous are simply made this way by bad owners like those who use dogs for sick purposes such as dog fighting. I have heard the “dangerous” and “unpredicable” rumors all my life about rottweilers; I do have an open mind to others’ opinions, but on this issue, I will have to disagree strongly.
My rotties, Max and Sadie, are a part of my family. They are sweet and loving; no one could ask for better dogs or companions. I have had these dogs for ten years, and they have never threatened me in any way or my son. My son, Luke, loves to fellowship with our dogs, and they have helped my son in overcoming autism, just like they have contributed to our family in so many ways.
If you are a dog lover or are thinking about getting that first pet for your family, do not believe the hype about Rottweilers. As with getting any pet, just make sure the breeder took good care of the animals. If you choose a rottie, you and your family can look forward to years of love and fun. Max and Sadie are truly two of the best dogs I have owned.
