Potholes to Paradise

Some days just seem to be filled with potholes. There is a quick method you can use to quickly change the sinking feeling of a pothole day.

Some days simply do not go as smoothly as I would like for them to. It may be that I am feeling the pressure of schedule overload or that it’s a day when things seem to be going backward for me. There are some days when everyone I encounter appears to be having their own personal pothole-filled day and directing their frustration my way. On a day when life’s road has lot of potholes, I’ve found a quick way to smooth it out. I can go from dodging potholes to basking in paradise in just a matter of minutes.

Whenever I’m having a difficult or unpleasant day, I can transport myself to a more peaceful place by simply taking a moment to look at pictures of my pets. The photographs always bring a smile to my face. They remind me of the unconditional love that is waiting for me at home.

It only takes a minute to gaze at a picture but the euphoric feeling it generates lingers indefinitely. The sense of peace, happiness, and knowing I am loved takes away the stress or unpleasantness of a difficult day. A photo of my cats enjoying an afternoon nap reminds me of how important it is to take a few moments to relax throughout the day. Thinking about their diverse personalities and sense of independence makes me more confident about my individuality. The pictures of my dogs lift my spirit and remind me to approach life in a forgiving and optimistic manner. My dogs have taught me that with the right frame of mind even a walk in the rain can be a pleasurable experience.

Taking a brief moment to look at a photograph of a special friend, family member or a picture from a vacation can also be an uplifting experience. On a pothole filled day, just a few moments of smooth traveling can make a big difference in the way the remainder of the day goes.

The road of life is not without dips, curves, and potholes. Accepting that fact and finding a way to deal with it makes life easier. Photographs of special people, places, or pets can be instant spirit-lifters. Keeping some treasured photos nearby is one sure way to know that no matter how rough the day may be, a brief escape to paradise is just a glimpse away.
