My Kitty Family Taking Care of Me

During a recent illness my kitties took care of me.
My kitty family taking care of me.
I recently was ill for 3 days with a fever and just ached all over. This is stated so you will know what a family I have in my home during my illness.
I have 3 kitties that do no contribute much to the maintenance of the yard or house. I have had them for 5 years even though they are all older than that. One found me and decided to haunt me until I let her inside to be my pet. That is my girl, Mimi. Named for her diligence in meowing to get my attention while sitting in my flower box outside the front of my home. I rescued the next from the pound so my girl would have a companion. I thought no one living thing, should live alone. Mimi decided she was going to get rid of him. Oliver, in short order was hissed at and generally had terrible intimidating sounds directed at him hoping he would leave. I informed Mimi that Oliver was staying, so after 3 months she agreed to accept him into the family.
My son was having a baby and he and his wife decided to try to get me to take their Siamese, adult, male with no claws front or back. I don’t agree with that procedure, but I could not talk my son into thinking an alternative idea. I asked him to try to find another home for Dooter, but I honestly think he did not even attempt to seek a home other than mine for his pet. Dooter is defenseless, but through much friendship, Oliver plays and tussles with his brother and I don’t hear very much crying. They became buddies very quickly. Mimi is still not loving toward Dooter, but she does not treat him as she did with hissing and the unlady-like behavior she exhibited toward Oliver when he first arrived.
My illness began on Wed. evening and that night I must have made some guttural sounds that alerted Oliver to purr around my head waking me up to clear the mucous from my throat.
The next night, Oliver was licking my face to wake me up. I realized then that I was burning up with a fever so got up for some water. When I went back to bed all the cats rallied around me to keep me tucked in and warm since I was now shivering from the high temp.
I have such a nice kitty family who really do help me when I am ill. Blessed times three.

I also have several cats and I would not want to live without them. Despite what people think and say about cats, they are very loving and wonderful companions. Very good piece!

Hope your better now. We need these heartwarming stories and poems in such miserable times.
We have two young cats one of which is a ‘rescue’ cat and they are the best of friends: often accompanyig us as we take our old dog in the nearby small wood. Their favourite game is to try and ambush us .Great fun. Stay well. C

Thanks for this lovely story! I’ve noticed that when one of the humans in the house is ill, sometimes our cats will rally around the ill person, for comfort and companionship. Also, when someone is crying or in distress, a cat will often come close to offer comfort and love. There is so much joy in living with cats! Now if only the older cats at home would accept the younger cats without hissing!
-My best, Allison
