The red eye frog is well known to have a quality to disguise itself with the green color of the leaves. Quite opposite to other animals, this amphibian has a tendency to sleep during days and stay awake all through the night. You as a pet owner will realize that your frog will be sleeping all through the day with its legs tucked underneath the belly for protecting itself from the unwanted and uncalled danger. For maximum protection, it generally prefers to hop on to the underneath of the leaves and that too at quite a height. A special mucous secreting from the pads of the frog is something that helps it to stay connected with the leaves.

While seem to be sleeping, this amphibian closes only its one eyelid disguising to keep his eyes closed but slightly viewing the movement of any predator. If attacked by one, it has the potential to startle the same with the bright color that shows off when it opens its legs and gets time to escape from the predator.

This is the time when you will get to see the activities and movements of the frog and also get to hear the sound of the same. Always heard on the television or seen in the forest, you can get to have the same experience in your house at night.

One aspect that would be of high interest to you all would be to see your red eye frog feeding. Feed him with crickets, moths, grasshoppers and flies and see how he attacks them sticking its tongue out. If you are having a couple it would be highly interesting to notice them mating. What will be fascinating in them would be the ability of the female frog to hold on the male on her back.

An aspect that should also be kept in mind before you keep it as a pet is that the frog is used to the atmosphere of forest. So you should make sure to provide it the same feel in the home that you make for it. The temperature should be balanced, neither too temperate nor too humid. Also include artificial trees and plants so that the frog gets a chance to sleep and rest the way it used to in his natural habitat.
