Jack Russell Terriers

Russell Terriers are fearless, loving, energetic and very obedient.

They are friendly towards people and mostly good with children. It would be better to have them around older children rather that younger. They should not tease or strike the dogs or there can be behavior issues towards children. They are really easy to train and pick up on tricks quite easily. If they don’t have an experienced trainer than they can become quite the handful.

Russell Terriers can jump and even climb over fences so they must be supervised as much as possible. They tend to hunt a lot more than any other terrier so they can not be around small pets. They have a few medical conditions including deafness, Leg Perthes-a disease of the hips, knee dysplasia and genetic eye diseases.

Russell Terriers can do fine in an apartment if they have a sufficient amount of exercise. They do even better with an average sized yard. They tend to relieve themselves inside the house when they are alone. Be sure to potty train very well if they are to be left alone for long periods of time. They can become very annoying and irritating if they have daily, brisk walks so be sure to take them on them everyday. They live up to fifteen or more years.
