Jack Russell Terrier Racing
Why Jack Russell Terrier racing is such an ideal sport for these little snow plough dogs.
Jack Russell Terriers are one of the feistiest types of terrier around. They are spirited, well-muscled little dogs with a keen hunting sense and absolutely no fear at all. That said they do when they eventually come down from their power trip of little man syndrome make wonderful pets but only under a strict and wilful master/mistress. These little dogs will not only take an inch they will take the whole world.

So how do you keep these little bulldozers in check?
A run around the park with lots of other dogs may be a no, no, as these little terriers tend to make up their own rules.
Agility is a good way to let off steam but you need a well controlled dog to start with and many Jack Russell terriers won’t do anything for nothing and they may not see the point of running and jumping over things with no real destination at the end.

What do Jack Russell Terriers like to do?
They are competitive.
They like to run fast.
They like something to chase.
They love to swim.
They like to get into hustle and tussle… in fact they are the dog equivalent to a scrum playing Rugby player!
So what would they absolutely adore doing?

JRT’s are crazy little dogs, NOT a dog for a person with little energy and no time, as you have shown.

Hahaha B you hit the nail on the head there. They are loud and crazy but when you have owned one you crave more. The are brilliant rat catchers too.

Have to agree with all you say Lilly – Wonderful little bundles of energy. However they are also very crafty and may well take short cuts to a finish line. Can’t help smiling and laughing at their antics can ya? hehe.

My grandfather had these dogs. He used them for catching mice that terrorised his pigeons! But certainly aggressive little sods! Great article as usual Lilly. Love the pictures too.

Good article, Lisa.
I had a Jack Russell who lived till he was nearly 17. I think I may have told you about him before, in that he was an out and out racist. It’s very had to teach a dog the ways of PC.

Ha ha, brilliant lillyr, the kids and I loved the vid. Wonderful pic of your son and pet too, My mother-in-law has 3 JRs. Although the now ancient one always tries to bite me, I am very fond of them, they have so much character.
