When you have a new kitten, teaching it to poop where it should be pooping might seem like a bit of a problem. Especially when they poop where you can’t find it! When I first got my kitten she would poop behind the sofa, under tables and behind the TV!
I couldn’t understand it at first but later found out that cats realise that their poop can be toxic. It contains toxoplasmosis which is hazardous to some people including pregnant women. That’s why they bury it, amongst other reasons.
So how do you stop your cat from pooping everywhere? It’s simple really, it doesn’t take that much work-next to training a puppy anyway.
If you have a very perceptive kitty then your workload will be very small! All you have to do is take one of you kitty’s poops and put it in the cat litter tray. They clean the area where the cat pooped thoroughly and you can be reassured that the cat won’t poop there again.
This usually works pretty well because the cat sniffs out where their poop is and they’ll do it in the tray next time. If this doesn’t work, it’s a little harder but still nothing too taxing.
When you notice your kitty has gone walkabouts you’ll need to track her down because she’s probably gone to find somewhere to poop. When you find her, pick her up and put her in the litter tray. Every time you think she’s going to poop put her in there. The more she becomes familiar with the tray the more likely she will be to use it.
It does sometimes take a while for your cat to get the gist of things, if she isn’t really quick to catch on. But it still really isn’t that much work.
Keep at it and keep putting her poops in the litter tray, introduce her to it as often as you can and she’ll soon get the idea. Good luck and keep at it!

All kittens litter train themselves.

There shouldn’t be a problem, mother cats learn their litter where to go. When you bring a kitten into a new home the first thing you should do is put him in the litter box. “So, There you go, now you know where it is.” And they generally know. Please don’t underestimate the intelligence of the cat.

I have to disagree with you both Ken and Agriculi, I have owned three cats from kittens and two out of the three had to be taught where to poop. They both took a while too. The third was pretty savvy and knew were to do it after a little coaching. They are smart animals, but not all know where to put it by default.
