I really don’t think having cats with dogs is a good idea!
It may seem as though it is a bad idea because we all know that cats and dogs are like enemies. But I assure you that once they get to know each other, they may become special friends. For example, if you meet someone new for the first time, you may find it hard to talk to him due to shyness. However, meeting him/her every day or week, your shyness will slowly ease and automatically you will get to know him more. You might even become special friends yourselves.
But there is a difference in us and these animals. Whenever we meet someone new in our life, we don’t lunge on them if we suspect that they will try stealing our property because this is what enters the brains of cats and dogs. They might want to dominate the home and will hate to see some intruder coming through their door!
Another two reasons is that cats are scared of dogs mostly because they have no experience living with one and the size of the dog might be rather huge. If this is how your dog is living in your home, it is important to make the right decision to let another guest into your family of pets.
What do you mean by the right decision?
You need to think if your pets will treat each other properly. There are certain types of cats and dogs which work together with their new family members and they begin to bond very closely. On the other hand, there are the other complete opposites which might start a family pet war!
It depends on the cats and dogs whether they want to build a friendship with another or continue having cat fights. The training you need to give them may take longer if they are not willing to get together!
Speak soft and calmly with your cats!
Remember to talk soft and calmly with your cats during the introduction period. If they behave and tolerate each other in your presence, praise them by gifting them special treats such as food and toys! Make sure you do not raise your voice to them as this will increase their anger with each other and thus, creating more fights than you may think!
The time of war may come!
Bringing a cat or a dog into your home will definitely bring war with it! However, you have to prevent this from happening by keeping your dog or cat in its own room. Remember to attach a litter box, dry food and water in the room so you don’t actually starve the cat/dog! Keep the door closed so you know that the cat or dog is secure from the other pets. Visit your cat hourly and see the condition he/she is in. Please bear in mind that you’re other pets will smell the new cat on you so it would be vital to give them more treats at this time!
