Hot Kitty Call: Taking Care of Your Cat on Hot Weathers

Cats are indeed sensitive to heat. Even though you are not exactly cat experts or felinologists, these facts are easy to learn, comprehend, and put into practice.

Living in a weather that is hot and humid will definitely make you feel sticky and restless. Those countries having summer season would not be out of the block either.

The next thing you knew, you might be longing for cooler days. And what is more is that it is even applicable to your beloved furry feline as well. Your cat will definitely agree with you to the idea of getting air-conditioned on those days with hot sticky weather.

If you are one of those cat owners who care much for their pet, you will definitely pay more and close attention to your cat’s health and surroundings.

Monitoring the temperature around your cat’s surrounding proved to be crucial since cats are not that good with heat, or are any good with cold too. Pretty much like human beings, a cat’s health can deteriorate from overheating. Except for a pet is like a newborn baby – they cannot complaint like human always do. The only way to find out is by practicing your observing skills, take heed of the warning signs and provide the best possible environment for your lovable furry feline.

Heat stroke is something that can occur to your cats when they got overheated. In other to protect their body, they will lick and pant the fur but it is not good enough to protect them from heat overall. They can be overheated rather easily.

What can you do to protect your cats then?

There a number of things that you should take note of when you are going to take good care of your cats in order to avoid them from overheating.

  • If you are living in a country with hot and humid weather, or even in the summer, make sure to keep your cats well inside the house, keep the fan or the air-conditioned on. This is because cats that are not outdoors most of the time would not know where the cooler places to hide are, or even find some other cooler places outside and may never return home.
  • If your cat litters outside, make sure they get back in after a few minutes when it is really a rising temperature outside.
  • If you got an access outdoors (around the house’s yard) and your cats can roam free, make sure there are shaded areas when they can escape from direct sunlight and heat.
  • Never leave your precious pet in a parked car, even in cooler weather and especially during the summer even for a short time. Since it would not work in cooler weather, parking in the shades will do nothing good anyway. This is because the sun will keep on moving constantly and the heated air of the surrounding is already bad enough for your pets.
  • Avoid your cat from strenuous exercise during hot seasons.
  • Grooming your cat often can get rid of excessive hair that has been shed, and is weighing down the animal. If not, the condition will only make your cat feels warmer than usual.
  • Finally yet importantly, always make sure that your cats have the access to fresh, clean water indoors and outdoors. The water should be cool and be changed few times a day, particularly in hotter days.

Analyzing all these facts, cats are beings that have a very sensitive nature. Much more than human does at most times. Now that you know what heat can do to your cats, protect them during hot weathers starting today.
