Horse Training

How to train a horse and the steps to take.

Training a horse is more then just pleasurable, what you train your horse it will last them a life time for them and for you.

You must have a communication between you and your horse. You must bu in control, and you must be very keen awareness of what is going on.

Training a horse is no different then it is to train a child to ride a bike. It takes a great deal of patience, a huge amount of your heart, and even more repetition, but the rewards are wonderful. Or you may want to think of it as building a house; you have to first have a solid foundation on which to build.

My daughter is training her horse, it is her first experience in doing this and I personally think she is doing a wonderful job. She (Andy, the horse) is extremely smart horse. Let me give you a for instance. I was standing at the kitchen sink and looked up to see Andy standing just on the other side of the gate. My window happened to be open and I told her hello. She immediately went to put her hoof over the entrance and I told her “NO” she could not come in. She looked up at me put her hoof down, her nose in the air, and she walked away. The first thing I thought of was, why doesn’t my daughter mind like that!!

My daughter may not even notice, but she has changed since she has started training her own horse. She is actually taking on responsibilities that she normally would not do. She has been consistent in her time with Andy, and she has put forth more energy in this one project then she has in anything else she has tried.

Here are a few things that she has told me you must do in order to train a horse.

  • Never feel fear with your horse.
  • Never be impatient with her.
  • Never get angry with her or show your anger if you do.
  • Never give up your control to the horse.
  • Always talk to her telling her what she wants her to do.
  • Always keep them clean and brushed.
  • Always make sure that there shoes are well taken care of.
  • Training a horse is not an easy job, but the rewards can be very worth the hard work that you have to put into it.
