Advice on how to make the best of your non-human relations.
How to get along with animals is, sometimes, a mystery at best. But do not despair! There are ways to make it easier. Here are some tips to help you make friends in the animal world:

Patience. Remember that animals, just like us, have their own will and might not do things simply because you want them to.

Manners. Some standard human behaviour can be upsetting to animals. Especially if you’re dealing with cats and dogs, don’t maintain eye-contact for too long, and don’t show you teeth when you smile.

Understanding. Realize that animals don’t hurt or annoy you out of malice or with deliberate intent. (Not usually anyway.) Learn from these situations by figuring out the true reason for their behaviour.

Read the signs. Since animals can’t talk with you, try to look for other signs as to how they’re feeling. Appearance, habits, body language – it’s all important. This can be difficult in the beginning, but like with most things, practise makes perfect.

Good intentions. Just like children, some animals have the uncanny ability to smell bad intentions from miles away. (Figuratively speaking, of course.) Keep this in mind. Good intentions will help you gain their trust and approval.

If all else fails, bribe them with their favourite food. (That’ll shut them up.;) Have fun and good luck!
