Dog with a Cat Brain

It started out as a stroll through the woods, what happened shocked me and I will never be tempted to do it again…
Sunday afternoon stroll, that could have ended very badly. My dog decided she could match any feline.
We strolled along and then Lottie saw a squirrel run up a tree, she ran after it but of course as always it was way up high in the tree as she danced around at the bottom. Stupidly the next thing I did was a bad idea, I forget just how willing to please my dog is and generally if I ask her to do something she will oblige with gusto and spirit.

I tapped my stick on to the tree trunk. You will notice my hat (don’t laugh, it was windy) and my dog poo bag, you see I do somethings right and always clean up after my dogs. Well it didn’t take long for Lottie to get interested in my idea. To be honest I thought she would just stay there and look longingly up the tree but of course she didn’t.

She started to climb up.

And up.

Now I was starting to get worried, what if she jumped and broke her spindly legs?

Still with silly hat on and poo bag in hand, I thought I would cry. There was only one way to do this, she would have to trust me and jump into my arms!

I threw down my stick and poo bag and asked her to trust me. She is not a huge dog but is made of pure muscle and bone and she has long legs that stick out like a bambi’s.

Thank goodness she was non the worse for wear! Can’t say the same about me though!

My old boy needed a cuddle after that too.

Thank you to my husband who managed to capture this drama on camera as a future reference to my stupidity.

My beautiful, faithful, companion Lottie.

heheheh… She shouldn’t in theory be able to climb like that. I think I will take her to agility training when she is older!

Kudos to your hubby for not laughing so much his photos were out of focus! Why did you not send *him* up the tree to rescue Lottie whilst you took the photos?
And why are you wearing a canine poo bag on your head?

I wouldn’t trust my husband with Lottie. When my little old dog tried to drown himself when he was younger by jumping in a river with no way out, I had to be lowered over the side of the wall by my feet to fish the dog out because he wouldn’t let my husband get him!! they are my babies:-)

Alternative title – How to turn a quiet stroll into an adventure!
I had a labrador x springer spaniel who liked to climb up ladders, it was always scary because she just wasn’t built for climbing.

How can such a conscientious person do something so silly? Tee hee. Lottie may have thought you were being stupid but she was too polite to ignore what you obviously wanted.
I hope you’ve become more careful with your demands on the lovely Lottie. Please give her a pat from me!

One of my Pharaoh Hounds had a bit of a go at tree climbing the other day. She didn’t get very far, and obviously didn’t think it was going to help her catch a bird – I haven’t seen Missy climbing trees since.
