Dog Fur
About Pet Care.
Pet care involves a lot of responsible care and not just mere feeding and bathing. A dog’s good health can be determined by its healthy coat. To maintain a beautiful coat it requires a lot of patience, healthy diet, good shampoo to wash the fur and everyday care like brushing the coat several times a week. It not only needs day to day care but also care specific to a certain season.
Dog coat isn’t just for aesthetic reasons .It also means that the dog is healthy and well groomed. With the advent of dog keeping becoming so popular, the market is flooded with products for dogs. These include a wide variety of dietary supplements, foods and grooming products and services. The dog owner must consult his vet before administering any products to his dog since the products can be breed specific. In another situation a vet might determine that a particular dog may react adversely to a certain product, after testing the product of course, and advise the owner against it.
One of the key aspects of keeping a well groomed dog is to brush its hair, because if not done several times a week it may lead to entangling of hair, which no careful dog owner wants. The frequency of brushing the coat could be discussed with the vet because it is both dog and its coat length specific. Another important thing to take care of is to keep one’s dog away from ticks and skin infections through other dogs and animals.
Bathing one’s dog is one more aspect of maintaining a healthy coat. It serves a dual purpose of keeping the dog clean and smelling good and also away from bacterial and skin infections. For obvious reasons dogs cannot bathe themselves and therefore need to be bathed by someone else. It doesn’t have to be a daily affair. Monthly baths are good enough unless your dog soils itself or its coat. One of the noteworthy aspects of bathing your dog is the temperature of the water. It should neither be too hot nor too cold. Secondly the dog shampoo you are using should be of good standards. It helps to consult the vet before using a shampoo and also reading the label for medicated and not just grooming shampoo will ensure that your dog stays away from infections and bacteria.
Nail clipping is very important too because all this bathing and giving nutritious and well supplemented diet may turn into a futile exercise if the nails are ignored. Long nails are not only a nuisance to the owner as they can hurt him but also to the dog since it could hurt itself and create a breeding ground for skin infections and open sores. Besides that it also can harbor unwanted bacteria which get deposited in the dog’s nails and paws leading to several other problems.
Most dog owners are concerned about the way their dog looks and it helps to keep in mind that a healthy coat not only determines a well groomed and beautiful dog but also a happy dog .An unhealthy coat can affect a dog’s mood and make it irritable and restless which can have further implications on its health.
