Dalmatian Dog Breed

Distinctively the Dalmatian is an easy to detect canine breed. This summary will give you some characteristics for you to determine if this is a breed for you and your family.

Please consider adopting this dog, cat or any other pet from one of the many rescue sites available to everyone.  I mention only  two, but know there are literally hundreds of Internet sites to check out on the web for pet adoption. You will be giving a pet a second chance to give and receive love in your home. “RED” stands for rescue every dog and can be contacted through  http://www.rescueeverydog.org. or http://www theanimalrescuesite.com is another trusted site to contact. My special thanks to The American Kennel Club and the Wikipedia for supplying me with some info to compose this summary.

Dalmatians are the only spotted dog breed which an exact orgination country remains unknown.  The Dally or Dal is associated with  Dalmatian, a region in Croatia.

This firehouse dog is referred to as carriage dog, plum pudding dog and a spotted coach dog too. The lean, long body of this medium size dog is a well known canine for  their sporting abilities along with fine characteristics as show dogs.

Dalmatians  have tremendous agility, endurance as well as a natural guardian of a horse drawn vehicle. If you want a genuinely lovable pet and an exceptionally wise show dog, your choice might be this breed.  Dog clubs organize obedience versatility, trail tests, rally trail performance in many classes as well as jumping, tracking and  weaving showing this breeds skills.

Short hair with colors of black and white spots or white with liver spots make this a stand out trait of the Dal. Other colors might be a gray, orange, brindle, mosaic, tri-colored or lemon hue.  The coat sheds almost year round, however with regular brushing, the shedding can be minimized.

The temperament of the Dalmatian is friendly, people loving, alert with an endless energy.  With those mentioned, they need more than the average exercise to remain healthy and well as a family pet. They are extremely easy to train, learning lessons at an early agePhoto is courtesy Wikipedia

The weight ranges from 35 to 50 pounds with a height of 19 to 24 inches tall.  The Dalmatian is one of the few breeds that both male and female are very close  proximity in size. An adult female can have an average of 8 pups in a litter, which are born white and over weeks the spots appear.   The lifespan of this breed is 12 to 14 years.

Physical characteristics are a square like body, thin tapering ears and a medium straight tail. The eyes are brown, amber, black or blue with  a round shape and medium size. Dals,  having a tight muscular structure along with a keen sense of smell have often been used to find people  in a burning building for the firemen to rescue.
