Choosing The Right Size Dog for You

How to decide what size dog you should get.
Are you thinking of getting a dog? If so one of the first thing you must decide is the size of the dog. Often choosing the size will determine what type and how much the dog will cost.
Determining the Right Size for You
Although you might have a dog in mind just remember these easy tips.
Remember that small dogs are normally delicate and vulnerable. Being stepped on or mishandled can cause serious injury. Also, little dogs can be much more sensitive to colder temperatures, so be ready to help keep them warm. The only bad thing about small dogs is that they often need much more training then larger dogs. The smaller dogs are normally more active, so you attention is needed as well.
Larger dogs need a bit more space to move around, so if you live in a small apartment this would not be the best size for you. Also, larger dogs obviously need a big cage, a bigger yard to play, and of course a nice large bedding to sleep on. Another consideration is expense: the larger the dog, the more expensive things like dog food, dog supplies and medical treatments become. Training your dog can also be much more expensive because it is sometimes harder to train the large dogs.
Small vs. Large
- Don’t need as big of a house
- Need a large house and yard
- More difficult to train
- Easier to train
- Less expensive
- Much for expensive for food, medical, etc.
- More active
- Normally not as active, but there are exceptions (Labs)
