First of all you need to bathe your Yorkshire terrier, using shampoo which is made specifically for dogs, because human shampoo makes their skin flaky and dry. When shampooing your yorkie, be careful around the eyes because the shampoo may cause them some temporary pain or blindness. Rinse your yorkie thoroughly, to make sure you remove residual shampoo.

After you have washed your yorkie, wrap it in a dry towel and let the towel soak the water in. Due to the fact that yorkies have a single layer of hair they must never be brushed dry.

Once your yorkie is semi dry, start brushing your yorkie starting from the spine and move upward towards the head. Due to the fact that yorkies have hair like humans, you must brush it as you would your own hair, on the side use long languid strokes.

Now that we are done with the body it is time to move on to the head and eyes.

Have a treat ready for your yorkie to munch on, simply because many become skittish when you brush the area around their eyes, and because it takes their attention away from you. When removing the eye mucous use a flea comb or a cotton swab. The mucous must be removed otherwise the hair around the eyes can rot, causing it to fall out, or even infest the eyes. Brush the hair out of the dogs eyes otherwise it may cause blindness.

Once you are done with the head and eyes, you are ready to start on the rear end.

First of all we must trim the hair around the yorkies rectum, this must be done at least once every week, otherwise the feces will get stuck in the surrounding hairs, which makes it very unhygienic for your yorkie. Now that you are done trimming the area gently wipe the underside of the yorkie with a warm damp cloth, as they have the tendency to wet themselves when they urinate.
