Boxer Dogs

General information on the boxer breed.

The Boxer is a member of the working breed.  Boxers were first bred in Germany.  They are a medium sized, stocky dog, with a short, thin shiny coat of fur.  They have a very powerful Jaw and bite, and a squared off body.  The average weight of a female boxer is 53 to 65 pounds, a males average weight is 60 to 70 pounds, and they grow to be anywhere from 21 to 25 inches tall.  Boxers come in three varieties of color, brindle, white, or fawn.  Most boxers have cropped ears and a docked tail.

Boxers are very loyal and prove to be good family dogs.  They do very well with children and other pets if socialized properly.  They are wonderful guard dogs as well.  Boxers do require a lot of affection and exercise, they are very energetic and playful dogs.  To ensure that your boxer does not get bored and begin to chew things, they need lots of physical activity.  They are a very curious breed of dog and my get themselves into a bit of mischief from time to time.

A Boxer has an average life span is eleven to fourteen years.  As a boxer ages they are prone to a few health problems.  Some of these health problems being hip dysplasia, thyroid problems, heart conditions, and some cancers.  Some boxers have problems with skin allergies as well.  There are treatments for most of the problems that this breed tends to suffer from.  But many of the treatments are quite costly.
