Please consider adopting a dog, cat or any other pet from one of the many rescue sites on the Internet around the United States and where you live anywhere in the world. Anyone can use these services to give a lonesome pet a loving home and a second chance at life. I list only a few, but there are hundreds of rescue websites available just for a few clicks of the fingers. “RED” stands for rescue every dog http://www.rescueeverydog.org or search http://www.hsus.org The last one I will mention is http://www.theanimalrescuesite.com
The Australian Terrier originates from Australia. They were bred for the Aussies to be assisted by this small dog in the rugged outback. The brave little pooch worked side by side with its owners to control snakes and other vermin as well as a guard dog for approaching strangers. This breed dog was recognized as the native to Australia in 1868.
Known as a trusted live stock managing dog, their keen, confident spirit brings them admiration as a treasured family pet as well.
Weight ranges between 13 and 14 pounds while the height is a mere 10 to 11 inches tall.
Australian Terriers shed very little, do well in apartments and acclimate well with people and children of all ages.
Physical characteristics are attractive ones for this breed. Standard, sturdy Australian Terriers have small, pointed, erect ears, a pear shaped head with a pom pom on top. Rufled hair circles the neck of this breed. The tail is not docked in many countries, so the feather like plume waves freely, sending a friendly greeting to pet owners and other animals. Small, dark eyes which are colored brown or black, have great expression which add to the friendliness of this breed.
Color of the coat varies with hues of tan, possessing a rough texture in the medium, long hairs on the short body. The life span of the Australian Terrier is 11 years.
Temperament of this working dog breed is best explained with words like spirited, alert along with good intelligence to accept training lessons well. Some attention should be addressed if the Australian Terrier will be sharing a household with other pets with the natural aggressive trait they own. They make wonderful companions.
