Straight from the Government. No middle man. You can adopt a horse or a burro from the US Department of the Interior.
Uncle Sam has a lot of secrets that he doesn’t advertise. One of them is the adopt a horse program were anyone can purchase a wild horse for $125 or a burro for $75. The programs aim is to control the population of wild herds of these animals. you also have to pay shipping and the animals come with all their shots.
To adopt one of these animals, you must have proper shelter, be of legal age in your state, and have no prior offenses against animals. You will not receive title of ownership until one year your adoption. There are two different numbers to call if you are interested depending on which side of the mississippi you live on.
The number for the Wild Horse and Burros Program Office on the west side of the river is 202-208-5717. For the east side, 703-461-1365. You can write to or look up; Division of public affairs, Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Department of the Interior, Room 5600, 18th & C Streets, NW, Washington D.C. 20240, Wild Horses and Burros Program Office, for more information.
