· Defensive tint
The defensive shade of the red eyed tree frog is something that helps it to protect or shield from the predators. One of the interesting features of this pet is that to save itself from risk and danger, it closes one of the eyelids to disguise, however facilitating it to look around. Underside of the leaves is the place where this pet can be found sleeping with its front legs held close so as to conceal the colorful stripes. To cover the bright orange color, it closes the feet underneath the feet.
Its bright color also helps to protect it from the attack since as soon as the predator comes near; the frog opens its eyes and takes its legs out enlightening the bright and vibrant color in a flash. This action alarms the predator and makes him take a pause which gives ample time to the frog to escape for his rescue.
· Clinging tight
Another alluring aspect of this animal is its aptitude to hold on tight to the underneath of the leaves. The naturally created mucous generated on the feet help them to have this feature that further forms a suction between the leaves and their feet. It is this aspect that is highly strong in the female frogs which helps her hold one or more male frogs on her back during the mating.
· Nourishing
The feed of the frogs mainly comprises of crickets, flies and moths. Just in case it fails to get these insects, the species will not hesitate to feed on other frogs. Being a night time species, feeding is normally done during the day. The strong sight and sound sense helps the animal to detect whether his meal is approaching or not. This frog without wasting any time takes its tongue out and gulps the insect without giving any chance to try for its survival.
· Attitude in captivity
There is not much difference in the attitude of the red eyed frog when it is held captive. Being in the company of two or three frogs will be sufficient for them. Being a night-time species, these frogs should not be troubled during the day. If you are planning to bring them home, make sure you feed them during night and if you wish to see they hint, pace few insects in their terrarium.
