guys stop saying your parents are stupid! They are not stupid! They feed you and care for you and you should not call then stupid! You guys did not get a dog because you did not try hard enough. It does not take you a couple of days to convince your parents. It could even take months! You guys just be patient! I would try: Ask your friend if you can take care of their dog. Your parents will SEE how responsible you are and MIGHT buy you a dog. If this does not work for you then if you are patient then get a dog when you move out. Also, tell your parents to have a TRUE FULL conversation with you about why, not a 5word and then stop, prove it to them! tell them benefits and stuff, steps like these i dout will work

not ALL dogs bark. you can get a basenji. they are considered to be a cat in dog’s clothing. it is impossible for them to bark. and dogs are really smart and usually learn fast if you dont treat them like a princess.

I REALLY want a dog! My mom wants one but we just put our cat down. I decided to shut up for a month till we talk about getting another dog. I have 30 dollars and want to help pay for it! Look your parents are probably thinking that you want the cute little puppy most dogs are way less cute as dogs. Even if you want a dog not a puppy you need to pay for it and do the reaserch and get steady income to pay for food and if you live in an apartment the fee for a dog. You need to reasrch the breeds and take a few different quizzes for dog breeds. Pick three dogs you like from the list and take the ones that are commonly rated high. then talk with your parents about it
reaserch the top 3 dogs and tell them the fine details

i had a little albino chihuahua about a year ago named Evanna. i loved her SOOO much & she was the best.
but she died about three months after we got her. >.<
ever since then, ive wanted a new one.
chihuahuas are my favorite kind of dog.
they fit my lifestyle well, too.
when i see chihuahuas i always wanna cry.
theyre so cute, and i know i cant ever get another one because i am not allowed! :0
my family got a pugjug since then, but i really dont like the dog we have now. me and her just dont "click" and that makes me want a chihuahua even more.

The reason why a lot of you aren’t getting dogs is that you’re so immature! It’s obvious just by your posts! And, I don’t think half of you realize the time, effort, and money that goes into a dog. On average, a dog will cost you a thousand dollars yearly, if you get one that’s perfectly healthy and perfectly trained. If not, then maybe $2,000 a year. Remember, the adoption fee of a dog isn’t the only thing you have to pay!
Also, you have to spend at least an hour every day (depends on the breed) exercising it in some way, you have to feed it twice a day, clean its water bowl twice a day, take it outside around 5 times a day as an adult housedog… the list goes on. You really have to figure out if you really are as responsible as you think before you start bugging your parents all the time.

this is how i got mine

say that you really want a dog and you will do anything (dont be to pushy,otherwise your chances are about 10%)

after that about a week later or earlier start choosing a dog (small layal dogs r perfect for begginers mines a jack russel terrier)

learn about that breed and test your knowledge

talk to your parents again about what dog they would like to have even if they dont want one

now try and find a dog thats has features of the dog you want and the one your parents want

learn about this breed (still keep in mind the info about your dogs info)

if they say they will keep the thought in mind about letting you have a dog your chances are about a great 55%

now say you will do chores to earn money towards the dog

if they finaly let you congrats but there is still more
you need to show responsibility get good grades and
get along with your brother and sister (tee hee its fun being a lil bro you get to annoy your older brother)

use your money VERY wisely spend it on food water dogshampoo

toys basket/bed cushion

lead collors after about 4 months of showing this once get your dog there is 0.01% of your parents willing to get rid of it oh another thing try and pay the majority of the price to increase your odds to 80%

I keep asking my parents, and my mom doesnt really mind getting one that much, but my dad used to have a doberman (the kind i want) and he just thinks im silly and me wanting a dog will just wear off, but im seriously SERIOUS! i ant believe he thinks i cant take care of one! :’( to think i would actually let a dog die because of not caring for it! now thats just horrible! i told my mom that i would sell all 33 of my breyer model horses, which are like $40 each! i spent my life savings on them, so if im going to sell all of them, then i must REEEEEEEEEAAAAALLLLLLYYYY want a dog! but…… they still arent convinced D’X if i tell my dad about it, he will be annoyed and become mad at me, and maybe make me cry i already have a cat and 4 hermit crabs, and i take care of them ENTIRELY by myself! not to mention i have a 3 year old sister who i watch and take care of (including the diapers and even staying with her in bed until she falls asleep an hour later!!) and babies are much for harder to take care of then dogs, because i took care of a stay husky before. im just sooooooooooo disappointed in my parent’s lack of trusting in my responsibility, that im losing trust in THEM because they cant see how much i want a doberman, and what lengths ill go to, to get one! ive done EVERYITHING! but my dad still hates them, and thinks me wanting a dog is a big joke/phase! :’( if i cant have a dog soon, i may become despressed and like my parents less, because they have little trust that i can deal with one (((( but im POSITIVE that i can.

Okay so I have a problem. I really want a dog and I have been wanting one since I was about 6. Now I am 13, and I am tires of being told no. I do not get an allowance, I get the best grades, I am the cleanest person in the house and I still can not get one. My mom agrees with me and really wants a dog, but my dad is like no, you always have to pick up their poop and pay for shots, and a whole load of crap, even though my dad wants a German shepard which is way bigger than a teacup yorkie.

oh , well i’m 13 i have two sisters and one little brother i love my parents but they will not let me have a dog either , i do not get allowance i babysit almost everyday never get in trouble and do more cleaning then all my siblings combined .
i found the perfect dog for me though , the perfect price and they are small so eat less food so they need less food so you buy less food and you save money ( cool ) .
oh yeah , and they where born in october so they probably have some of their shots done .
i started dog walking and now i can afford the dog that i want , a tip is that if you start dog walking your parents might think that you are responsible and will be able to take care of your own dog , it did’nt work for me .

okay. i totally aced it. my mom finally is CONSIDERING it after like 5 years. i just looked into the CUTEST puppy ever and now i think my mom is going to look into it since we already filled out applications and stuff:) but the best thing you can possibly do is to prove to your parents that you WILL be responsible for the dog. i convinced my mom with my good grades, doing chores around the house and cleaning my room spontaneously without her asking, and constantly reminding her how beneficial a dog is in a family and how it would bring our family “closer”. it totally worked. some of you should try it, if it doesnt work than nothing will so wait until you are 18 that was my original plan!! ( i am 14 at the moment)

Well my mom grew up her whole life with dogs.
I on the otherhand cannot have one, (even though it the only thing ive ever asked for snice i can remember)
because my mother dosent want the responsibility.
When i always tell her i will do it and i will.
she also says we dont have the room, when clearly we do, and who ever said it had to be a large dog.
my mom pisses me off seriously. And i want to move out because i cannot stand the fact she wont give me the one thing ive only really ever wanted. There was never a point in my life where i said i dont want a dog anymore. And it gets me angry. My birthday is in 21 days, and everybirthday i want one thing, and when i blow out the candles i wish for a dog. But i cant get one till i live on my own^o) did i mention im only turning 14.

You guys shouldn’t call your parents stupid! They obviously have a reason for saying no! I have a dog, well actaully its a family dog. I want one for myself though. I already have my own hamster but he’s going to die soon anyways.=( I still dont have my own dog but this is how I convinced my parents to at least consider getting me a dog: For the past 2 1/2 years I have been researching dogs and taking quizes for them on animalplanet.com and other websites like that.(not to get a dog, just to learn about them because I love them) One day we were at Pet’s Choice and I was looking around because I was talking about getting a Tarantula or a hamster or something like that and all I needed was the money.Once we were about to leave I was asking my dad if I could get an animal and I started naming all my choices but he said “no” to all of them and then I started joking around and I brought up a dog! He said “yes” as soon as I can afford to buy it, feed it and all of that other stuff!
I started looking up prices for food and averaging it out for future referances and It turned out that all I need is a 1345 to afford the dog and all the other supplies. I also averaged out the amount of time it was going to take me to be able to get this money with my chores and stuff.( I only get 4 dollars a week plus if I get straight A’s on my report card I get $20) I told my parents that it should take me 2 years and 2 months and they siad that as long as I got a breed that they agreed on, it was ok. If you really want a dog you have to be patient and start with the little things first! Some of you people who are posting are really impatient and I can see why your parents dont get you a dog, just think about your attitude.

If you want a dog thats easy to manage get a standerd poodle,minature poodle or a toy poodle.They’re really cute and they dont loose any hair.So try to convince your parents to get a poolde of some kind, and the poodle I had didnt run away because they grow attached to you and dont get annoying !

Some of you are acting so young and immature. Which makes sense, because that’s what you are. You average about ten years old and demand ‘a beagle’ or ‘a german shepherd’ or whatever. You need to understand firstly, that if your parents are against you getting a dog, one of these dream breeds is probably not ideal. German shepherds are not recommended for young families and you must be willing to take them for like 5k walks every day. Beagles are incredibly difficult to train and dig up just about everything. Also, let them off a lead and in most cases, have fun getting them back in a few hours Like some people have mentioned, chihuahuas, westie terriers, jack russells (if you are active enough) and various larger dogs like newfoundlands, labs and greyhounds are more first time owner dogs. These dogs are usually sound in temperament and are usually fairly easy to train and aren’t OVERLY active. Of course, they are dogs, they still take a lot of care and over 1000 dollars a year in most cases. So if your parents say no, there may be a lot of valid reasons. Consider this. And yes, I know, it sucks. A lot. Just keep hoping and be realistic about what you want.

The more you have, the less you can spend on each individual. Love the ones you have, and next time you are looking at dogs in a few years maybe, get that breed.

I volunteer at a local animal sheltar twice a week. I do this because my parents refuse to get me a dog. They think that I won’t be able to handle it when it dies, or responsible enough to train it. I couldn’t when i was 6 and Annie died, but I’m 15 now. I have enough money to get any dog from the animal shelter or the pound. There is the sweetest young Australian Shephard that I want so bad! The only problem is that she is missing a leg, “Too much work.” says the parents. They don’t relieze she gets around just fine on three legs! It was a birth defect, not an abuse issue, so their is no behavioral problems attached to that.

I agree with you on this one, you are showing how much you care, and are also trying to give a dog who may otherwise be euthanased a second chace. As long as you are active, an Aussie Shepherd would be a beautiful family member. Also, with your dog dying when you were 6 i apologise for this, but NO child should be responsible for any animal solely when they are this age. Even twelve year olds should not be the sole carer of their pet. A dog is a family thing and particularly with young children, an adult should be responsible enough to not let it get neglected.

Its fair to say everyone who has commented loves dogs but parents need to think about the practicality of owning dogs. Im 19 live in my own flat and own two dogs. They cost a fortune! They are both mine and i pay everything for them myself. My childhood dog which i owned when i was 5 till 13 although i loved him very much i didnt do nearly enough for him just because i was young i didnt realise even though i loved dogs had done all my research and knew what i had to do. My mum had to do it instead. You may have the time just now but for a lot of people it gets old fast. They take up much more time than you realise.

With my two they get walked in the morning then i have to put there dinner out for them to defrost, then i go to work, come back take them a walk, train them, dinner, spend time with them, walk again, get them set for bed, walk again then get them settled for the night. My older dog who is 14 cries when ever she is left alone which used to be a nightmare before we got our second dog. My younger dog who is 2 is not 100% house trained despite frequant walks and training so i frequently have to clean up after her. You need to pick up their business, they can be sick which you need to clean, they need groomed, they need there eyes and ears cleaned. You need to make sure they are clean all over. What if it is a nippy dog and continually bites you because your younger? Dogs take authority from the leader of the household who will be whoever tells you to do things (ie your parents). They wont see you as pack leader unless you call the shots in the household. 2 of our pups have been that way. One was a border collie whos instinct was to herd my youngest sister because she was young. She is good with dogs and involved in training etc. but there was no way of stopping him. Our other pup who lives at mum and dads house does the same and is a cavapoo. Because the pup has so much energy she continually nips at my sisters ankles even though they train her but would never dream of doing that to my parents.

Cost, can you afford to pay for vet bills, at least £30 a year for each dog, then if it gets ill much more, dog food can be up to £30 a month on cheap food, toys, bedding, collars, insurance, classes, actual cost of the dog? Your parents need to be able to afford the dog for you. Maybe they cant and just dont want to tell you that.

My whole life revolves around my dogs, i love going out and partying but if i want to do that i have to get MY PARENTS to watch them. If they didnt i would have no life at all other than them. I love them more than anything but you need help with owning dogs or thats all you’ve got. Maybe thats all you want just now but life changes.

You may really want a dog but are you really prepared to do that for 14 years sometimes + during exams, when you go to work, when its your summer break. Chances are your parents will need to help at some time or another with costs or looking after the dog, so if they’re not on board its not fair for the dog to be brought into that environment. Dogs pick up very easily when its not wanted and it wont be happy.

Learn everything you can about dogs and when you have your own house you can be the responsible dog owner you want to be

If you really want to convince your parents the best way is to introduce them to a very calm dog and look after it to show your parents your willing. Plus if they get attached to that dog they may be interested in getting there own.

And i can see from previous posts some of you wont like what ive said but its the reality of owning a dog, they are the most amazing animals but the whole family needs to be on board when buying them and you need to know what your signing up for. Im not against anyone getting dogs but your parents will have a large part in looking after the dog whether they like it or not. What if you convince them to get the dog when they’re still unsure, then after a few weeks of owning the dog you parents decide its not for them and give it away?

There is almost no pain worse than that of losing a dog.

Our other pup who lives at mum and dads house does the same and is a cavapoo. Because the pup has so much energy she continually nips at my sisters ankles even though they train her but would never dream of doing that to my parents.

Cost, can you afford to pay for vet bills, at least £30 a year for each dog, then if it gets ill much more, dog food can be up to £30 a month on cheap food, toys, bedding, collars, insurance, classes, actual cost of the dog? Your parents need to be able to afford the dog for you. Maybe they cant and just dont want to tell you that.

My whole life revolves around my dogs, i love going out and partying but if i want to do that i have to get MY PARENTS to watch them. If they didnt i would have no life at all other than them. I love them more than anything but you need help with owning dogs or thats all you\’ve got. Maybe thats all you want just now but life changes.

KK-border collies are not advised for first time dog owners. They are incredinly intelligent, too intelligent for many households. A border collie could be bouncing off the walls when left alone as they are very active particularly a puppy-they are bred for competitive sport (sheep herding). They are more likely than other breeds to show agression due to there breeding as there instinct is to nip the sheep if they refuse to move. Also likely to try and herd your cat. As with all breeds there are exceptions to this of course.

I know that it wont work but you cood still try it and if that doesnt work try this :
1. do all of the steps above if thy say no go to step two
2. look up things about your breed and tell them the good things about havin a dog
3. if they wont listen to you then write a letter to them telling them all of the advantiges of havin a dog
4. if that even doesnt work then try doing extra chores and make your own meal every once in a while; this will show them that u r rsponsible
5. also, tell them that you will pay for the dog, but if u cant and u get an allowance then tell them that however much the dog was they can take away from your allowance
6. if this doesnt work than your parents are stubern

i tried this then i ended upwith two dogs lol then two years later my mum got me horse ( i haden’t even beenasking for one i was quite happy with the riding lessons )so yayyyyy the one other thing i did was to walk my f iends three dogs and i would bring them in to the house with my mums permission and iinvite my mum out on walks to show her that a walk with a dog is great fun i now walk my dogs and ride my horse at the same time in cockington

I took care of my cousin\’s dog during the summer in like August, and we made plans to get me a dog in late September and got him October 3!!! Honestly, I don’t think that you should blame your parents. Why? Because they’re afraid the dog might break furniture, bite people, act rudely, pee in the house, claw up the walls, and so forth. Taking care of a dog is very hard – You have to walk it, feed it, play with it, and train it. They may just be afraid you won’t take care of it.

My parents won’t get me a dog. I’ve researched, begged them, asked them, written essays, talked to them, done everything I basically can. Since I was old enough to know what a dog was, I’ve been longing for one. Asking doesn’t help; they just get aggravated and yell at me for asking them and being annoying. Apparently, I’m just not responsible enough. Prove to them you can be good enough to raise a dog. Raising a dog can cost you thousands of dollars a year, and a lot of time. It’s worth it, but maybe they don’t realize it. STOP whining. STOP begging. Try to reason to them and show you’re not a little immature baby. Maybe you should set up a budget estimate, to show them you’re serious. Tell or show them what you’ll do, and how you’ll do it (Feeding them, training them, etc.) so they know you’re not clueless.

I’m volunteering at a local pet shop to prove that I’m mature enough and know how to raise dogs – to those who are wondering, they buy from breeders and treat the dogs and other pets well. Maybe you people who are screaming and whining should consider doing that.

For beginners, you shouldn’t chose a large dog. Sure, German Shepherds, Siberian Huskies, Wolfhounds, and Border Collies are beautiful and friendly, but for a teen like me, you won’t be able to handle them. There are exceptions, of course, but large and energetic dogs may be too much of a handful, and perhaps you’ll end up dropping your much-loved dog at the shelter.

Think it through before you even attempt to beg for a dog; and keep what I said in mind. Hopefully some of your wishes will come true and you’ll get a dog. Otherwise, there’s always a tomorrow.

Hi. I think I have tried absolutely everything in order to get a dog. I have wrote a twenty two page booklet, put posters up in the house, given my parents dog books, looked after my nannan’s dogs, done extra chores, looked after my guinea pigs, offered all my savings, said I’ll only have half my pocket money, adopt a dog not buy one to save money, talked about our old dog to show I know what to do, told my mum and dad all my knowledge, researched supplies and costs, researched dog adoption websites, researched these websites, looked at other dog sale websites, did a petition, got my friend to write a letter, called my dad ‘Your hyness’, cried and begged.

After I give my parents my petition and booklet I will be stuck for ideas. I know my parents are slowly warming up to the idea, but I mean slowwlllyy.Does any one have any ideas to how I can speed up this ‘warming process’. Thanks.

I am 18 years old, I volunteer around thirty hours a week at the local SPCA. I have straight A’s, I can not get a dog without my parents permission because they are willing to pay for my college. I have two cats that I take care of and spoil. My mom is all for getting a dog. My little brother really wants a dog. Then we all go and ask my dad if we can have a dog one day, and he says no……..then about a month later asked again, and he said if any of us asked again, or even hinted about it, I wouldn’t be allowed to volunteer anymore. How do you handle that? Do not say that I should move out, I live part of the year in a dorm room, and my parents wouldn’t go for me living in an apartment because college is really far away from home. Also, the dog is for my brother not for me, he wants one of the puppies I am currently training at the SPCA. Any ideas of convincing him?

go to all pets club or somewere that you can get dogs give it all of your money and get gift cards. when you finall have all of the money in gift cards buy the dog, throw away the recite, and bring it home and say how much you love it and cry if they bring it back. i think it will work thats how i get the stuff im not sposed

Those suggestions don’t work when your parents are in their 70’s and you’re in your 30’s! I’m already doing all the work in the house and acreage and all those suggestions are either already being done or irrelevant. I have lots of other animals. I have a strong mothering desire, and since I’m too ugly to have human children, all I can think about is getting a puppy (last had one in 1991). My parents are against it completely even though they do nothing but lay around the house. The problem is once I accepted I’d never have a dog, my mother went and got an adult dog. The dog growled and barked at me and wouldn’t let me touch her so she was returned. I ruined my one chance.

I’ve always been known as the ‘horse girl’ at my school, at home-everywhere. I knew how much it costed to have a horse. It can cost over $400 a month for just food. So when I was sure I wouldn’t get a horse, I researched dogs. I instantly fell in love with the German Shepard. And what do ya know? When we had to board our dogs for when we left for vacation once, there was a German Shepard for sale! Then dad went through all the stuff I’ve heard. cost, care . . . It’s not like I’m a desperate little kid, either. I’ve loved animals all my life. I want to be a vet when I grow up and I volunteer at a vet clinic. I’ve never gotten a B until 5th grade. If you’re wondering, yes, I do have 3 other pets, but they weren’t for me. 2 of them-my dogs- are about old enough to die and their health isn’t too good, either. I have a cat that we got about 3 years ago, but she was adopted for my sister’s birthday. I’ve put pets that I want on my wish list every year! And what happens? She puts a kitten on her wish list once and she gets it! If you’ve even taken the time to read this, do you know what I can do to convince my parents?

Okay, so I already have a really really really good dog. But it’s on the larger side. Although, I want one of my own that is smaller and that i can hold and cuddle with! But my dad doesnt really like dogs. But my mom loves dogs and want to rehabilitate dogs like Ceasar Millan does on The Dog Whisperer, but she STILL SAYS NO. And she always gets mad @ me when i ask her 4 a dog. but i dont wanna b a pest cuz then it’ll ruin my chances of getting another dog. my mom and dad say it’d b 2 expensive to have 2 dogs. and they dont think I’ll be responsible enough but i know that i am! And out of the 3 kids in my family, i am the best at walking the dog properly and feeding it properly! and my mom even said so! BUT YET SHE STILL SAYS NO! I dont get it @ all.

I used to have a dog when I was 5 years old. It was a Lhasa Apso. It was soooo cute, but it had an infection in her right eye. I never really got to take care of it that much because whenever I tried to help, my mom said not to help. It was my aunt’s. Later when I was six, it ran away. . Her name was Princess. I’m 12 years old right now and ever since she ran away, I wanted a puppy. I want either a Seberian Husky, or Smalandsstovare. I have a friend that has a Smalandsstovare that just had 4 puppies. There so small. She is giving the all black ones for free and the brown and black ones for less than $100. But my mom said no. But I read her that list that is up at the way way top, and she said she will think about it. YAY. Thanks. xoxoxox

Life sucks. I really want a dog. When my granddad was little he had 3 when he lived with his parents and 6 when he lived with his grandparents. ( I live with my grandparents) the are very young compared other grandparents they are 50.
I’ve been asking for a dog for a long time but my nan says that I’m not responsible and I wouldn’t look after it. I’ve looked after 2 rabbits and a hamster by myself with no help when I was much younger. My uncle brought back a cat and he said he’d look after it but he doesn’t so I do.
I love dogs buy my grandad said that I would go for walks with it and he doesn’t want to look after it.
I don’t understand the fact that my brother gets what ever he wants and I don’t. If my grandad had dogs when he was younger why can’t he let me have one.
I only want a beagle and will willingly pay most of my allowance towards shots food ect

I’m 23 and haven’t had a dog yet…my brother got one when he was five…never did anything with him etc…and I’ve been asking and researching Siberian huskies for ten years, even offered my parents rent for the dog to stay in their house (for no longer than a year and a half) and they would not have to pay for anything with it…I still got ‘no’ as an answer…hrm, they don’t suck I just think it’s a bit one sided…owell I’m

I have been asking my parents for a dog since a 2 years after my last one past away. its bin 9 years and my parents finally gave in and got me one. I can tell all of you are under 12 years old but u got to be patient and wait show your parents that your responsible even if that means 1 year of doing laundry, dishes and getting good grades, and if they still don’t allow you 1 that sucks, 2nd once your 18 you can buy one but if you do buy one when your older you better have the money and the heart to take care of your Pup.

here is an idea:
the nxt stray dog u find (make sure they have no coller on) bring it back to ur house and tell ur mum or dad, if u dont think they r home call them and let them no ur taking a dog home, there is nothing worse then coming to a muddy dod that u hav neva seen before. if ur parent/s keep the dog for a night and plan on taking it to the pound so the owner can pick it up, bath it, and show how much u love this pet. NOW, this can go 2 ways:
1. if ur parent/s take it to the pound and some1 picks it up u could gain responsibility by that (just spend as much time as u can with it) and they might think about getting u ur own dog.

2. no one might pick up the dog, so either they put the dog to sleep, they sell it to a random person or u take it home(this how i got my dog)just make sure u make ur parents feel guilty about the dog, u neva no how some1 could treat this innocent creature, or make them fell bad by saying “u know that they put animals to sleep if they dont get an owner, i really loved that dog, wish it was mine (then a small sigh, not to obvious though)”

I’m 14, I absolutely love dogs. I have wanted to bea vet ever since I was like 5. I’ve researched every breed of dog you can imagine and know almost everything about feeding, exercise, behavior. I know how to train a dog, as well. My parents though, my mom and my step dad don’t want one. I think they do secretly but they don’t want the work, and they don’t trust me to take care of it. They don’t understand that I mean it when I say I will clean up after it, train it and feed it. I’ve always wanted a dog, I’ve had 2 in my life, but neither for over a year at a time, because of my mom. I enjoyed owning them but I’ve grown up alot since then, and I want the experience again. I’d love to have a dog. I torture myself by going on sites like kijiji looking at dogs or going to pounds and spcas. I know both my parents like dogs. But they say its because of where we live, which is bs. We live in a HUGE house with a massive backyard. Everything would be fair to the dog, I don’t see their reasoning as fair at all, and feel like a piece of crap. And feel like I won’t be able to get a dog for years, I want one so badly it upsets me for days and weeks at a time, I can’t go a day without thinking about it.

I just proved I could look after a dog. Got up and went for an hours walk at 5 am, cleaned my room and pretended I had a dog.
It also took a lot of persuasion and responsibility.
You must remember a puppy isn’t something you can play with then get bored of, it’s a lot of work – ALL DAY! It’s a living being and if your parents don’t think that you can look after it – then you probably can’t.

I have been asking for a dog for the past 7 years and this year is the only time they are actually getting me one. The only thing that has worked for me is hard core barganing if you really want a dog you need to be ready to give up a lot to convince your parents and even if you dont mean 100% of it you really have to try. Oh and never give up even if you go a month without asking try try and try again. My mom and i have a lot of allergies so i had to do a lot of research to find a dog we could live with at the end it was all worth it

I really want a ferret. Everytime im on the internet im researching about them. Everytime I asked my mum for one she immedietly said no. I have stopped asking her for one as much because she was getting annoyed that i kept on asking her. I have started to clean up a lot around the house and do things that she says when she says it. I am making a powerpoint presentation that I will show to her soon and it is like 10 slides long. I am also making a microsoft word thing about 9 pages long and I will show her that next year when I get a job (you have to be 14 & 9 months but I am turning 14 in 3 months) so that I can pay for all of the bills it needs. I am also taking extra good care of my other animals and making sure they are very very happy. I asked her nicely if I could have one next year and she didn’t answer me that is a good start because usually she will get angry and yell no. This means she might not say no but there is still a good chance I wont get one but anyway I am doing everything I can to convince her, and don’t go around calling your parents stupid because it is not nice and that obviously means you arent very mature and that is why your parents don’t want you to get a pet. + my mum hates animals and she will be really really hard to convince but I got a really good plan worked out and hopefully it works If it doesn’t then I will just have to wait untill I get my own house. You should try doing some of the things I said, your parents will probably be suprised. And you have to figure out WHY your parents don’t want you to get a pet, I asked my mum calmly and she thought i was winging and she yelled at me, after many times of asking I finally figured out that she is scared she will end up being the one looking after it and she doesn’t want to pay the vet bills, so I have decided to stop being immature and I will clean up after myself, I should be starting to do that anyway at my age. hope this helps

in the summer hols i was on holiday awith my mum and sister and i was goin though t phase of wanting a cat and i texed my dad on my mums phone preteding it was my mum and said that i was allowed to get cat and my dad said the only thing walking round our house should be a dog then he rang and mum agreed to get one then in september my mum suddenly said i dont want a dog anymore we bought all the stuff and everything so we took all the stuff back that day my dad says all of us have to behide the dog but iv been doin everthing to reconvice ny mum she thinks theres not enough space paa theres loads of space in our house we had also booked a veiwing to see some adorable cocker spainel puppies now that puppy is with some one else ive done essayas mum makes me so upset coz all she says is NO NO NO

Okaayyy, these steps are good but you can’t just ask your parents for a ‘dog’. You have to do some research, find out which breed of dog would be the right one for you. If you have a sibling or parent who is allergic to pet fur, why not ask for a non shedding dog? My moms friend went to Cuba for a week and I am babysitting, or I guess dogsitting her dog for the time period she is gone. The dog we have at the moment is a black and white shih tzu and it is great for our family! It doesnt grow too big, we already worked out a walking schedule, and it doesnt shed, which my mom loves for keeping in the house. I’ve wanted a dog ever since I was 4, and now I am 13. All these years I have been told it’s a big ‘responsibility’ and I woulnd’t believe it but now that I have one, even for short time, I realized it is. Now, I still reeeeeaally want one, but i’m starting to think of some different and more convining reasons. I hope this helped ^.

I want a dog soooo bad i wated 9 years then i had one for 5 months! heheh, no chance of getting a dog even if you are 15, 16, or 17, there is so much damn homework in highschool that you will never have time to take care of it, unless you have had a dog before, and is accustomed to taking care of one your screwed. if you get down on your frickin knees and BEG you won’t get anything but a strange look from your parents… Ask them politely, and don’t bother them about it for another week. Everytime you see a commercial about animals in need point out that you could help dogs when you adopt them, and give them a loving home. BE POLITE AND MATURE dont BEG everytime you see a dog, or you will NEVER get one. And if you’ve waited for a few years (since 2nd grade till 11th maybe….. YOU CAN WAIT ANOTHER 2 years to get one for college. Dont call them stupid, be smart and mature and polite and you might just get one. Otherwise…. well, you get the picture

Try volunteering at a Animal Shelter and spending time with the cute pup’s and dogs there.. After your parents see how responsible you are, maybe, JUST maybe they’ll think about getting you a dog…

I recommend volunteering at an animal shelter to get your “dog fix” for now- you can get a taste of what it’s like to care for a dog, the fun and not-so-fun stuff. Poop scooping, rowdy behavior, etc, but also the satisfaction of helping dogs that need you…

if you want a dog and your parents let you get a jack russell terrier (parson long-legged type)!!!!!!! If u r energetic and active thats the dog for you!!! i have had dogs all of my life and only those type! i had one when i was a baby but it passed away so we got a new one and when it was about 8 years old we got another one. so we had two dogs for about 5 years. the older one sadly passed away about a year ago but we still have one but i want another one!!!!!!!!!!!! anyways these types of dogs r great!!! they usually dont have any health problems so they live long, they are very active but can be cuddly, they are small, and they come in so many different patterns!!! if you are the lazy type i wouldn’t suggest them. they r also easy to train. they r also hunters! so if you have a bird or giuinea pig or bunny it is hard to control them cuz it is their natural instinct! i have a sun conure bird and my dog is so annoying with it!!! she always wants to get it even if its in its cage! but these types of dogs r soo cute!!! look them up

Hey. i have wanted a dog for so so long and my mum and dad always said no. They said no because of us going to our holiday home and being away too much on holiday. Now its aloud to have a dog on our holiday premises and its accessable to fly dogs over on the plane we get. So i asked again and they still said no! they said becuase me and my brother would be leaving the house soon ( we are 15 and 17) and then they would be left with it and also that they wouldnt wana see it die cus it would be too upsetting. And another reason is becasue my granny is sick and my parents think that she would be a little insulted if we got a dog in her time of need. I personally think she would enjoy it. There is only a few thing needed to get as many dogs as you want….1) Convince your parents that they want a dog by reminding them of theirs when they where kids 2) Become a very good kid, and responsible so that they will believe that you will actually take care of the dog/s 3) A loving and caring heart for the dog, dogs do not care if you are rich or poor, the only thing they care about is if you have love for them and care for them. That is what i did to get 3 dogs at age 12, 1 blue nose pitbull, a golden retriever, and a rotweiler, trust me…… it is as easy as that. Although there is one more good step too it, it is to get very good grades. that kind of goes with the responsibility one but it matters also. good luck!!!!!!

im 12 now and my mum(R.I.P)told me when i was 10 i could get a dog when i was 14 its 2 years away and i just cant wait to get a German Shepherd puppy.

i did a little sum and worked out by the time im 14 ill have £220-birthdays,christmas,spare change-so ill tell my dad that i will pay for most of it and he could just pay the remainder.

I know all of you really want a dog this always works!before you start to ask them make them happy-cup of tea,a cuddle ect.

1:Ask them why they don’t want a dog and try to resolve the reasons.

2:If one is your not responsible ask them if you can get one i one or two years also this helps prepare for step 3.

3:If they say yes,save up until the time comes and add that money to the total.if they say no,then tell them you will save up every penny(of course ot meaning it but anyway…;D)

I got a dog four years ago and its not as simply as the tips. Me and my dad wanted a dog but my mom didnt. I just kept asking and using lines like I know i will never be able to have a sibling and a dog would keep me cumpony. Hi, like most of you I want a dog and I am really passionate about getting one. Also like most of you I have something standing in my way and stopping me from getting a dog, you guessed it that thing standing in my way is my parents. I would love a King Charles Spaniel and I have read up about them and I really think they are the dog for me but I want a dog so bad it doeasn\’t matter what breed I would be happy with any dog. I think getting a dog from a shelter is a really sweet idea but if I got a dog I think I would like to get it as a puppy because then I could raise it and grow up with it. I am home schooled so I would have plenty of time to care for it and fullfill all its need. Also as I am sometimes left at home in the day it would be great company. Some people on here wh have commented before me say they already have a dog and want another, I just want them to remember that they are super lucky to have one dog lots of kids would do anything to have that. But if you are in that situation you could always take really good care of the dogs you already have and that might just let your parents see how responsible you are. I want a dog but I am the only one in my family who does! my mum says ask my dad and my dad says I will get bored of it but I know i would never do that! dogs are loving creatures that need to be treated with respect. I am annoyed that my parents dont think I am responisible enouth and don\’t trust me. I never knew they saw me that day but to get around this I am going to try to let them give me more responsibility as I am their oldest daughter. I was running out of ideas so I started looking on websites like this for insperation. The only pets I have at the moment are 2 guinie pigs and don\’t get me wrong they are absolutly adorable and I love them but I want something bigger to care for. I am going to start to clean out there cage and do other stuff to try and prove the point that I am responsible to my family. My mums sister had a dog when she was little so although she didn\’t have a dog she grew up with one which is probaly more then I will get to do. I think everyone who has commented and wants a dog deserves one. And if you have commented like me and your parents wont let you have one remember that you are not alone and alot of other kids feel the same way you do. Alothough your parens so no dont let it get to you they love you and would do anything to make you happy and maybe if you treat them with respect they would do the same for you. When my parents first started saying no it really got me down but now even though I am not happy about it it doesn\’t get to me so much. They are only trying to do what is best for me and I have to respect that. When I am older I will have my own life and then I won\’t need their permission. So remember that you will also have your own life one day and you will be free to do what you want and you wont have to worry about what they say then. I am trying not to nag them to much and mainly try to give them facts but when you want one as bad as me that can be hard, very hard. I see so many sweet dogs and would do anything for one and one day I will hopefully own one and I just need to wait for that day and when it comes I will be the happiest person alive! So remember if you have called your parents stupid or dumb on here then try to think of their reasons against you getting a dog and remember how much they love you! If I ever get a dog I will poat on here telling you. I quickly want to say thank you to everyone who has read this and I hope I haven\’t bored you to much! If we keep our fingers (and toes) crossed our wish may come true.

Ok, I am a 12 year old girl and right now I have a pomeranian named Dixie. I got her in 2003 and love her to death. She is the best dog anyone could ever imagine except for her terrible barking. I was only 4 when we got her and I never got the chance to take care of her. I do things with her now but she really doesnt like me that much. She doesn’t respect me and almost seems scared of me. I really want another dog (a Yorkie preferribly). well why try to force them when you can tell the parent who would be okay with talking to you about getting a dog tell them what you will do and they can talk the other parent into it and while that is going on you should give them sometime to think but while they are thinking show that you are reliable and take care of a friends dog to prove it to them

Well, all I can say is, if your parent’s won’t budge…. Keep trying. Don’t Just say the stuff, DO IT. Even before you get a dog. Like, celan and vaccum or sweep, without an allowence. I know it sucks, but trust me, it might just work!! Best of luck, Kat

Prove it by doing good stuff for them, and cleaning or doing chores without an allowence. Once you’ve been doing that for about a month, THEN ask. don’t ask over and over , though.

It’s not that my Mum and Dad don’t want a dog and don’t want me to have one. They’d both love a little puppy, but you can’t always have what you want, not even them and they really want one too. If we had the money for a little dog, then we would be getting one. However my Mum and Dad had a dog when i was little but i can’t really remember it very well, and my mum said he was alot of work and trouble and he was only a little yorkie. hi my name’s carla and the problem ive got is i live with my nan and grandad they know i can look after a dog, and they know i would never get bored of it plus i even work in dog grooming so i have enough money to pay for everthing fully (and there you may say but if you work then you wont have the time for a dog, but i do because where i work in dog grooming alot of the people take there dog to work with them and let them play in the fennced feild with the other dogs) also i dont play video games and i already do house work and i walk my friends siberian husky alot of the time but still no? my nan has sed yes but its grandad and what makes it worst is his a dog lover and knows have i feel because he waited 5 years for his old dog (befor i was alive) so this will be the 11th year. what can i do?

I might be getting a dog my mum is still not sure but here how the dog thing came about the pets I have always wanted are dog, cat and house bunnies. So we went to the rescue shelter to look at some kittens we resvered one. But then we went the shopping afterwards and my dad got a really bad allergic reaction he started getting lumps on his arm and his eyes webt puffy we had to drive home to get his inhalers. Then he told me we can’t get you a cat if I am going to be like this all the time and he said I did want you to have one. Then I started crying because I really wanted one then my dad said we will get you a nice dog my mum said chiauua(my mum totally love these dogs and soz if Spelt wrong.) My dad said no because he hates chiauuas so he said a Yorkshire terrier and I totally love yorkies but my mum said yes back then no she is saying no. But my dad talked to her last night so I will see how it went and if she still said no I am goin to make a contract and a pros and cons sheet of having a yorkie.

Oh, my gosh. By some replies,(i.e. i wanna friken dog! My parents r stupid! Waaawaaaa) you don\’t seem very responsible. At all. Sorry, but that\’s the truth. You guys have to realize the full potential of dogs. By some responses, I get the idea that you want a dog to dress up and love and train. You probably don\’t realize all the other stuff. Vet work. No vacations. Poop. Vomit. Barking. Barking. Barking. Shedding. All of that comes with a dog too.
Now don\’t get mad. I\’m a kid too. I am 14 and I wanted a dog since 2002-3. It took me 7-8 years to get my angel. A lot of oppertunities came along for a dog, but we waited. Don\’t expect that the first dog that you see will be \’the one\’ it might, but have your mind open to other dogs too. You WILL get a dog, in time. (when you do, make sure to do dog agility!! Best. Sport. Ever!)

I have been thinking what dog to get for a long time this month.
First I wanted a great dane, my dads friend has one of these, but my mum thinks they are way too big, but so do I !
Here is a few tips to find the dog of your dreams:
1.Go to Google and type in, ‘the right breed of dog for me quiz’.
2.These should come up with a few suggestions of quiz’.
3.Type in, ‘www.justdogbreeds.com’.
4.This site should come up with a few breeds and info on them.
5. Go to Google and type in ‘Dogs’. Then click pics on the top.

I no the perfect way to get a dog! write a perswasive letter and put in things the dog will help you and your family with(bring your family closer together, more excercise,ect.) and make a contract research,help pay ect. also try to work on one parent at a time like i am ok with my mom now I just got to break my dad(the unbreakable one) well if none of this works beg and if that dosent work maybe you just wornt ment for a dog maybe you were ment for a fish or cat or lizard or hamster!
keep trying never give upand one day you be doing what your doing right now but with a dog beside you! hope this helps!♥:)

So when I do convince my parents they say yes not any more because I have had three dogs that were MINE. First one was named Dock it was a family dog but it followed me everywhere and when I would leave he would lay down and be frozen. So my mom said he’s your dog then we got a kitten for my sister and it killed the kitten so we got rid of it. The second one was a Belgian Malinois they are very expensive I wanted a simple rough collie but my dad said it’s either no dog or a Belgian Malinois. I owned it from when it was a baby it was scared of cats until my cat kept teasing it when he was in his kennel sleeping. He was leash aggressive. I didn’t train him right, I had never had a puppy and I was the only one taking care of him. NO one would feed him but me because he was my dog but still people should have helped me a bit. We got rid of him because my mom didn’t like the fact that he would chew our deck, jump around, and then he also had bad manners. But he was sweet and would guard very well I could go on camping trips and wouldn’t even worry he wouldn’t even sleep he would just go around the tent it circled and then peeking his head in the tent to see if I am okay all over again and again he wouldn’t even sleep. I miss my big boy koda even though he was probaby the most ill mannered dog he was my big boy Koda.

Now I can never get a dog again because they think I am a crappy dog owner and trainer
