Time Management Mistakes

Are you kidding me? Are you running the business with daddy’s money or left over from grand pa’s will? The foremost time management mistake is to give no heed to time!

Time management is the key to achieve many goals and objectives but alas we seem to fumble and do not strive to implore the negativity of time mismanagement and blame things to fate. While fate is an acclaimed butt kicker, often we take the honors of kicking ourselves in the rear due to negligence or non-acceptance to our short comings. While I would love to elaborate on time management fiascos and their individual impact, this post is focusing on business and the importance of time management.

How many of you are doing business? And how many are successful at it? The answer of first question will be relatively low as most of us are job goers, where as the second question will reveal that those who do manage to jump in the world of commerce are often left baffled and confused. Where did I go wrong? They seem to wonder. Let me solve the mystery, there can be hundred reasons! I will start off with time management mistakes and leave you to figure out the rest.

Time management:

Time management is the first issue which is stalled to the last in most businesses. While the focus is on investment, analysis, financials implications and budgetary details, no one sits to chalk out details on time management. Bad idea friends as this will lead you to time management mistakes and will have an adverse effect on your businesses. Let’s move to the mistakes now shall we.

 

 

  1. Time is of no essence:-

Are you kidding me? Are you running the business with daddy’s money or left over from grand pa’s will? The foremost time management mistake is to give no heed to time! I have often seen environments where time is not given due consideration. Starting work late and then sitting well past working hours to wrap things up shows the lack of commitment you are having to your own business. Time to wake up! With each wasted tick-tock you are losing business. Do your self a favor and buy a day planner as if nothing else it would make it evidently clear to you that the biggest time management mistake is not to give a dime to time (see my rhymes!).

  1. Inappropriate working environment:-

You have started a journey called business; you are on the boat which is sailing on the sea of commerce! However soon you realize the boat is wrecked and has leakages, while you spend your time fixing the boat others will sail pass you and your ship most probably would sink. That was an interesting analogy that I managed to cook, the moral of it is give proper consideration to your working environment. You want to run a business in an office, make sure it looks like an office. Don’t waste time managing a chaotic environment and settle these issues at the start!

 

 

  1. Shying Away from Deadlines:-

Being too shy to make commitments to your own business ventures is a very BAD idea and a severe time management debacle. You want your business to take you to places and make you money! You don’t want to linger on unnecessarily. Do not fall for this mistake, set-up deadlines for whatever task you commit yourself to and try to complete the task in the allocated deadlines. Thank me later.

 

  1. Expecting greatness from work-team:-

Your team is as good and realistic as you are. If you are a bit down on greatness please spare you employees the honor. In most business scenario to ensure efficiency and progress the employees are overburden with assignments and task. While this clever move is made to ensure time management and completion of assignments at a faster pace it would eventually burn out the work team and……… wait for it …. Waste time!

 

  1. Easy Distractions:-

Wasting time is a good buddy with easy distractions. Time-management goes down the drain if you are easily distracted. Working at a task if you feel your mind is wandering to the latest fiasco in Grey’s Anatomy chances are you are an easily distracted being. Apart from mental distractions there can be other disorders in working environment which can distract you(easily) and will also distract your employees(if you have any). Over looking easy distractions is a serious time management issue which need you immediate attention! Hello, any body home?

 

Here you have it some common time management mistakes. These are very evident and while these time management issues are hampering your individual life, it will most certainly put an end to your business life. Time to think straight as in manage time properly! (please you are distracted again)
