Ways to Get More Food for Your Money

Alternatives for families to get more food for their money.

In this though economy, any way we can save a couple of bucks in groceries is a blessing.  If you have a big family, and one of you lost a job, or you are the only provider in your family, the supermarket prices do not help you. You have to get creative and look for other ways to feed your family.  If you don’t live on a farm, it will be very challenging for you to grow your own food, so the best next thing is to run to Wal-Mart, where you can save a lot in groceries.  But what about if that is not enough, and you are short in food and cash?  There are other ways, less known, but available to any.

One of them is called Angel Food Ministries, and it is available to anyone who wants to buy food from them.  Every month, for about $30.00 you can order their Signature Box, which is a different menu every month, and you will get enough food and balance nutrition to feed a family of four for a week – great for $30.00.  You order the food (online or by phone) and you will pick it up at your local host site.  There are host sites throughout the United States.  To find a location near you go to their website (http://www.angelfoodministries.com) and put in your zip code.  Besides the Signature Box, there are many other orders that are excellent such as:  Senior convenience box for $28.00, 5 lb. allergen free food box for $23.00, and the special boxes of the month such as, 7lb. assorted meat box – $23.00, 4.5 lb assorted meat and chicken combo – $22.00, 10 lb boneless skinless breast box – $21.00, and premium fresh fruit and veggie box for  $22.00.  These boxes are designed to feed a family of four and vary from month to month.  Their Thanksgiving box ($36.00) is a complete thanksgiving dinner.  Some of these special holiday boxes must be ordered in advanced.  This program is open to anyone that wants to purchase the food.

Another good alternative is the website yourfoodstorage.com – where you can buy freeze dry foods and dehydrated foods in a year supply.  Prices vary depending on family size, but certainly, when you tally up what you spend in groceries for a family of 4-5 a year, it will save you some money.  The downside is that it is only prepackaged freeze dry food and dehydrated (army style), but of course you can cook it, too.

These are alternatives for today’s families that are looking to make the most of their grocery money, and provide a nutritious meal at the same time.

  1. Good one. Angel Food Ministries is excellent. Also, some people refuse to wean off brand names. There’s nothing wrong with store brand food.
