Save on Groceries

You can’t look for enough places to save money these days. Keeping your groceries fresh longer helps to save money. Find out more…
Anytime you make a grocery purchase and that food goes bad you throw it away. That’s a waste of your dollars. You might as well open your wallet and start emptying the dollar bills into the trash. Extending the shelf life of your food will save you money.
If you wait to wash your fruits they’ll last longer. When you purchase your fruits do not wash them until you are ready to consume them. The extra moisture will cause them to spoil more rapidly. Also keep your fruits away from your vegetables since they can emit a gas which will make them spoil too. You can store your bananas in the refrigerator. The peelings will turn dark but the fruit inside will remain fresh.
Keeping the temperature of the refrigerator set below 40 degrees will keep your produce and other foods fresh. Be sure your food is not packed in so tight that the air cannot circulate. If you put too much into the refrigerator then you will overload it and this can cause your food to decay more quickly.
Mushrooms should be kept in a paper bag. Slimy mushrooms are not appealing to anyone and that is what will happen to them if you store them in a sealed container. Your tomatoes should not be kept in your refrigerator. You will cause the tomatoes to lose their freshness and taste. Instead leave your tomatoes on the counter so they can continue to ripen.
Bread tends to get moldy rather quickly. If you are living alone and don’t use much bread then wrap a few slices and keep those slices in them in an airtight container not a bread box. Put the remaining bread in your freezer.
Even though that new refrigerator door can hold a milk jug it doesn’t mean it’s the best place to store your milk. Keep the milk on a shelf inside the fridge. You’ll want to keep that milk cold so it stays fresh longer.
