Save Money: Cut Down Your “Techie Expenses” for the Rest of the Year

Although it’s already May, it’s not too late to get started on your “save money” resolution – if you’ve not started. Here, a few things you can do to cut dawn your “techie expenses” for the rest of the year.

Unplug Your Gaming Console
Completely unplug your PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii when not in use! A report by the US Natural Resources Defence Council found that the PS3 power saps more than any other gaming console when it’s left on! The council states that you’ll save simply by unplugging the gaming console or using its auto-shutdown mode, as opposed to leaving it on all the time. Both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 have auto-shutdown features, so find out how to enable them. The Wii apparently is the most energy efficient console, but shut it down anyway!

Stop Your Satellite TV Subscription
Tough but think about it – video streaming services like You Tube offer hundreds of TV episodes, movies and documentaries on line or you can click straight to the network’s site to catch your fave show streaming, all with fewer advertisements! If you think watching movies on your PC monitor is really not fun, then consider getting rid of the extra channels on your subscription that you don’t really watch.
Get Rid of the Land Line
If you don’t spend much time at home, don’t have a home Internet connection and the people you live with are contactable via mobile phone, then consider unplugging your land line. Let’s say your monthly phone rental charge is USD9, that’s RM106 you can save in a year!

I don’t have to worry about gaming consoles or satellite TV as I don’t have either but I am seriously considering getting rid of the landline or one of the mobiles. Good tips Matt.

Alternatively, keep the landline, and dispense with the mobile operations if your routine is predictable and likely to be near a telephone or desktop most of the day. Good ideas.
