In Spite of the Cost of Living, It’s Still Popular

A quotable quote.

How true is that quote? How many times in a week do we complain about how much things cost? How many times does the government tell us that “the cost of living will increase over the next decade”? But we keep on living because that’s what we do.

There has to be a solution to the economic crisis gripping this world of ours.
Let me Google for a minute…

Alright, here’s what I’ve come up with:

OK, so Google didn’t help me. I am still going to complain about the cost of living, and I am still going to go on living, because I’ve always wanted to be popular!

Here’s what I’m going to do to save money over the next year.

  1. Quit doing everything I don’t need to do to survive. The $70 a week on cigarettes (filthy habit anyway!), the $40 a week on a case of beer (nice – but it’s not a survival tool), the $20 a week on fast food or junk (might make me feel better), and the $20 a week on bus fare (I suppose the 20 minute walk into town and back won’t kill me!) Wow, there’s $150 off the hop!
  2. Plant a garden. OK, this one will take a bit of time and energy, but if I’m going to quit the smokes and drink, It’ll be something to keep me occupied. Once established I reckon a savings of about $20 a week will be had.
  3. Sell the car. There’s on-line grocery shopping now, so I don’t need a car to buy food. I can take the train to the city, or the country. That would save about $520 a year in petrol, $900 a year in registration, $200 a year in upkeep.

Alright, lets add this up. Per year, if I follow these 3 steps, I could save: $10460! That’s awesome.

I think if the world reversed itself and started to live like humans did 200 years ago, we could save heaps and feel better too. Give up the luxuries!!
