Grocery Coupons: A Great Way to Save While Shopping

As the cost of living continues to rise, there has never been a better time for households to find ways to save money. One way to save money is quite simple, and could be fun – clipping coupons.

“A penny saved is a penny earned.” – Benjamin Franklin

While living costs everywhere continue to rise in response to a weakened economy, families are more often than not looking for ways to adapt and spend less money. Some of those families are finding that coupon clipping may actually bring a big payoff in savings.

There is a right way and a wrong way to use coupons- that is if the objective is to spend less money. If you want to spend less money, here is how:

  • Do find as many coupons sources as possible. One good place to look is in the local newspaper, and usually the Sunday edition will have the most coupons.
  • Avoid paying for memberships in coupon clubs just to get coupons. You want to be able to save money without spending extra money.
  • Do get the family involved. Set aside a day of the week when you can sit down with a member of the family and clip coupons. Keep in mind- you should only be looking for coupons for products that you actually use on a regular basis. Don’t buy something just because it is discounted because you will be spending more than you actually would have.
  • Do keep an eye out for the most aggressive discounts at your local retailers. While they might not have a coupon provided, the sales price could be just as aggressive as the coupon.
  • Keep in mind that some retailers that offer free customer discount cards will often send you coupons for items that you purchase regularly. Take advantage of these offers.

The savings provided by coupons may not seem substantial at first glance, but they could really provide major savings over a period of time. So bring you family together and start clipping! Happy Savings!
