Getting by in Tough Economic Times

Some tips on getting by and finding some kind of money to help in these tough times.

What should i do?

This must be the first thing your asking yourself. The bills are piling up, bank account is getting low, and you start to feel depressed about finding some kind of employment. I’m only 21 but for that past year and two months I have been searching for some kind of full time work. I have bills that are overwhelming me but i find a way to get by from month to month. When i was working full time for the last time in January of 2009 I would have no bills after the first week with money to spare. But now since then i have only worked 6 hours a week with no full-time jobs in site. What you need to do is site down and figure out what your going to do and how much you need extra a month. Me myself I need tons more money so I have to do a lot. I’m going to go through the ones I think can be most useful. First rule which i learned from the book “Rich Dad, Poor Dad”, you have to know how your cash flow works. Make your money make more money. Keep a detailed book on where your money comes from, goes, and what it’s spent on.

Finding Work!

Okay, we know everyone is looking for a job. Here’s the problem with all the job cuts and problems in the Economy there are barely enough jobs for all the unemployed people. So here’s what you can do in the mean time. Apply and try to get as many and i mean as many part-time or on-call positions. This is your best chance to make some money while you also apply for full-time positions. Join as many job-boards as you can:

  • careerbuilder.com

  • monster.com

  • work-in-retal.com

  • etc.

This way you can see jobs that one site might not have and better your chances to find something. Apply, apply, apply as much as you can. If you have Internet on your phone i recommend applying when your on the train or bus, in a line, or anywhere your not doing anything. This way no matter what your resume will be out there and you’ll better your chances of finding work.

Speaking of a resume if you think this is your problem do some research on writing a professional resume. Also learn to write cover letters because this can also help your chances when you apply and they ask for this. If at all possible try to get previous employers to give you letters of recommendation. This will show potential employers what you may have done and/or how you are in the work place. Aside from applying online at job-boards as your outside go into stores or places you see people working and ask for either a manager or how you can apply for a position. Keep searching and applying and looking. If you find jobs that offer training take it as it can always help you in the future.
