Frugal Living: General Tips on How to Save Money Daily

As the world is still trapped in the economic crisis, it gets more and more important for us – the “little people” – to save money. Being frugal is not a bad thing, it is THE most important thing if you want to save money on your daily expenses. In this article, I will give you general tips and hints how to save money.

Save on repairs

Do you call a specialist for every single repair that needs to be done on you house? Most times, this is not necessary. You can fix most of the problems yourself or maybe you know a neighbour or have a friend who can help you with the more complicated issues. And if you don’t know how to repair something, then look for a handy manual on Google or even on Youtube. Many people give you advice with self-recorded videos.

Save on food

You can really save much money in the supermarket if you watch prices and just don’t buy what you crave. Try to buy almost everything on sale for the cheapest price possible. Use only fruits and veggies that are in season and cheap. In the winter you can eat frozen and canned veggies. In addition, you should try to fix more for dinner than you actually need and eat the leftovers for lunch the next day or freeze them for another meal when you don’t have time to cook.

Don’t fall for coupons. Most of the times it is cheaper to buy off brands and items on sale. Try to keep your pantry stocked and if an item goes on sale then stock up like a hamster. If you find a really good deal on meat then also stock up and freeze it. Try to eat meat not always as the main dish. Try to use meals where it can be an ingredient and not the main dish, instead. Also try to eat pasta or rice dishes at least twice a week and a soup and sandwich or potato night once a week at least.

And most important: Dining out or calling the delivery guy is more expensive than cooking yourself. Keep that in mind!

Save on electricity

Did you know that your tv is still consuming energy on stand-by? This is true… So plug out everything that you don’t need. Plug out the microwave, your coffee machine, and everything else if you don’t need it at the moment. This can save up to 25% of your electricity bill!
