There are only four basic steps towards saving money. Every tip can fit in one of these four areas. Using these areas of saving is a start towards saving hundreds of dollars every year and working towards living a better life.

Step #1 – Organizing Your Finances.

The best place to begin saving money is just by organizing your finances. By understanding your goals, what you are spending, creating a budget, and knowing your net worth, you can find ways to save money. The biggest piece to saving money is tracking your spending. Spend one month tracking every penny that comes into your house and going out of your house. From there you will be able to see where you can start saving money.

Step #2 – Searching for Better Deals

Whether you are looking at insurance, groceries, or big purchases, always look around for the better deal. Take the time to shop around for cheaper insurance. Take the time to clip the coupons. Take the time to compare prices at different stores. And take the time to talk to people to lower the prices on what you already have, such as credit cards. These tasks are more time consuming then difficult, but taking the extra time will save you lots of money.

Step #3 – Taking care of what you have

Sometimes you do have to spend money to save money. The biggest well known example of this is changing the oil on your car. First, you can change the oil yourself, because it is really not that hard, which save you money and second, the maintenance on your car will make your car last longer and saves you money in the long run. Taking care of your house and other property works the same way. Spending the money to do the little things will save more in the long run.

Step #4 – Find Ways to Cut Expenses at home

This is where the riding your bike, turning out the lights, waiting until the dish washer is full, and other ideas come into place. These little steps can make a huge difference. Opt to make cleaners then buy cleaners. Just searching the internet for uses of vinegar you come up with thousands of ideas of ways to use it. There are thousands of items floating around the internet where you can cut a few dollars here and there. Once again, while it doesn’t seem like saving that three or four dollars on the electric bill each month is a big deal, if you can do it on five different items, that is a savings of over $200 each year. That $200 goes a long ways towards Christmas.
