Economical Things to Do on Weekends

Week-ends should be fun times, and a mini vacation from work. Here are some economical things that you can do for that mini vacation.

Week-end is get away time from the everyday grind of school and job. Trying to find things to do, that do not cost too much money, is the challenge. Here are a few suggestions that might make those week-ends more enjoyable.

First of all, scout around and find some parks in your area. Make a picnic lunch and take it to the park. The kids can romp and play, and you can relax and enjoy the great outdoors. This is especially good when the weather gets cooler and the leaves start to turn. Plan some family activities, such as throwing a Frisbee, setting up a badminton net, or tossing a ball. It will give everyone a chance to have some fun and exercise.

Rent a family movie, especially one that is a comedy. Settle back, pop some popcorn, and enjoy a family movie afternoon.

If you can afford it, go to a $1.00 movie theater and see a movie for just $1.00 each. Pop your own popcorn and bring some soft drinks to help make the expense smaller.

Take a walk in a park or forest. Ride bicycles around your area. If the kids are too young to ride, get a seat especially made for children.

If the park has ducks, save up some stale bread and feed the ducks. This is a picture taking moment, and the kids and the ducks make great Christmas card pictures.

Go through old pictures and look at the days gone by. Invite some friends to come in and bring their old picture albums. You can put a pot of coffee on and have a good laugh at how times have changed.

Set up some board games and invite friends over to play a game of scrabble or maybe Mexican train. Have everyone bring a snack to pass. You can provide the soft drinks, or assign a friend to bring them. You can supply the paper plates, napkins, and cups.

If you are a religious person, have a Bible Study group at your house. Have a friend be in charge of the lesson for the week, and invite others to read the lesson beforehand and discuss the lesson.

You can do this with a book, also. Assign a book to a group and then discuss the book in detail at a small get together.

If there are children, have some board games for them to play. You can collect small prizes from the local dollar store, and pass them up to the winners of the games.

These activities work in both rain and shine. The children will enjoy them along with the parents. If there are stay at home parents in the group, they will enjoy the companionship of adults other than the children.  If you have dogs, take them along to the park and let them romp, on a leash, of course.

If you are flush with money, you can take a ride into the country. Fill the car up with neighbors and take a trip to see the countryside. If you share the gasoline expense, and take turns driving your car, this could be an on-going experience.

Getting away from the humdrum of daily obligations makes for a more interesting weekend. Enjoy.
