Unless you live a pioneer’s life then you still have room for cutting the cost of living in your home. Practice and time is all it takes to trim the budget.

The dishwasher is a  convenient appliance. Key word being convenient. The key to you budget is convenience. Take the few minutes it requires to wash the dishes. Disposable plates are a waste of money. A few plates are quicker to wash than to spend the extra on the luxury. For every load of dishes you do in a dishwasher you could wash and dry a load of laundry.

To cut the cost of laundry get a clothes line and buy fabric softener. Yes, it takes time and practice but in a months time you could save $30 to 100.00 of your family’s money. Planning is the essential task. If you take your clothes to the line hang them out you have just spent less than 30 minutes. Take your hangers to the line to collect your laundy. Hang everything at the line and fold the rest. You are done. No laundry haunting you in the dryer!!

Use those countertop ovens and crock pots…they do not heat the house like your range, therefore, air conditioning bill drop instantly. Not to mention the countertop appliances use one half the power.Getting easier? Unplug any chargers that are not being used. These cords do draw power even when not being used.

Your landline telephone is so easily accessible that you are probably still making long distance calls on it. Call the phone company and remove the long distance if you have a mobile phone. Add a toll code for the rest of you. It prevents anyone without the code to make a call and reminds you to use the free long distance.

Thrift Stores are “chic” now. For most of us they have always been a necessity. These second hand stores are a gold mine of used products. Clothing, furniture, computers, appliances, even building supplies. Yard sales are also a treasure trove of products. Just keep in mind that if you don’t need it today then don”t buy it. Impulse buying is greater if it is a great deal. REMEMBER you are there to save money.Check your local classified ads to find other things you may need. Used doesn’t mean all used up.
