10 Things You Can Buy for £1
Spending £1 can be quite difficult sometimes because nowadays there is a lot less to buy with £1. However, there are still some things that you can buy with £1, and here they are.
I remember as a child i could go down to the local shop and get a whole bag of sweets for £1, which would last me a week! Today however, you can just about buy a bar of chocolate, like a Twix or a Mars bar, with a few pennies loose. It wasn’t that long ago either, i am only talking about 10-15 years ago, but it just goes to show the rate of inflation these days.
It is true that £1 will not get you very far these days, especially abroad or if up against the Euro or Dollar. However, there are some bargains out there, and items that are naturally quite cheap. So here are 10 things you can buy for £1 or less.
1. A Pint Of Beer- If you go to Weatherspoon’s they do beer for 99p. Failing that there are places that do cheap booze just for the custom.
2. Buy Cleaning Products- If you buy the brand names, they only cost around 50p. Most are quite adequate to use, and can save so much money.
3. Poundland- Go in Poundland and everything is £1. From pens to shampoo, disposable cameras to drinks, or even some socks. You say it they do it.
4. Primark- Primark sell clothes at a very cheap price. I am sure you could find something in there for £1.
5. McDonald’s- McDonald’s now do a saver menu where you can get a cheeseburger, fries or a drink for just 99p.

6. Lottery Ticket- They say you have to be in it to win it and for £1, you might as well.
7. Bottle Of Water- Yes, a bottle of water is still under a pound. Just.
8. Portion Of Chips- In the wrapper or a cone, a small portion of chips should cost no more than £1. So tasty.
9. A Bet- You can either go to a casino or a fruit machine, or even to the bookies. Just don’t expect much back.
10. A Homeless Person Their Dinner- There are so many homeless people out there that are starving hungry. It might not buy them much, but at least it is something.
There is not an awful lot you can buy with just £1. You need quite a few of them to be able to buy anything decent.

Nice share.Let me compare your pound sterling with that of Indian Rupee. To day a pound sterling is equivalent to Rs 72.3 at the exchange rate.
Though comparisons are odious I cannot resist the temptation.
Rs 72.3 is a considerable amount and well the above the poverty line.
I can have Two decent meals in a hotel, or approximately 1.3 liters of petrol, or a top up for Rs 70 for my mobile phone, or half a kilo gm of either sweet or savory, or a blouse bit for my wife( of course of a moderate quality) or even a saree during the offer period, 3 1/2 liters of milk, or 5 cokes or vegetables for a week for a small family of 3 or 4 members or 72 kg of one rupee rice in the ration shop or 3 kg of quality rice and so on.
But only a third party should comment upon our purchasing power , about our standard of living or about the status of economy in our states.
Thanks for provoking my thought.

Our supermarket now has a pound aisle where each week it offers a whole range of basics at a pound each. This is very useful. A good post.

Interesting. Just to let you know, here in Slovakia, you can get up to 2 pints of quality beer for 1pound (well, depends on region, you wouldn’t get even that 1 pint at some places, though might be over 2pints at some other place).

One pound is about 2 dollars. So our 99 cent meal at mcdonalds is about half the price of your 99p meal.

I like this one. Some everyday things there, like the pints at Weatherspoons that I didn’t know about. Enjoyed this. Made me think about my £1 a little more.
