When moving from one home to another can be very stressful and aggravating. Here is how to help you stay calm during your move. Once you have found your new home, set a move in date. Call your friends and neighbors and let them know you will be moving. Most will help you pack and may even help you pack.
When packing ask yourself is this something I really need to have or can I get rid of it. Make a box dedicated just to getting rid of things. Have a garage sale or yard sale to get rid of unwanted items, if they don’t sell, donate them. By doing this you have created less to pack and move. Have your friends come at different times to help you pack, that way you can visit as you put your items in boxes.
If you are going to be using a uhaul, pick it up the day before you move, so it is already there first thing in the morning. Schedule your move in day by making a list. Make sure you schedule numerous people to help pack vehicles, trailers, or uhaul to put your items in. Get up early before every one is to arrive and enjoy a hot cup of coffee or tea to give you the time to relax before your day begins.
Once you start packing the trucks, don’t quit except to have a bite to eat, the more you keep moving the faster it will get done. If you are renting make sure you clean the apartment after you have all your stuff out. It makes move out cost a lot less. Go back and check all your cabinets, nooks and cranny’s before you leave as to make sure you have everything and didn’t leave anything behind. Even if you have checked them once before check again. It will help ease your mind that you have everything out.
If you can move things a little at a time so you don’t feel overwhelmed the day of the big move. I bought the house I moved into so I could move little things and even some of my big things little by little. It made it a little less hectic, when I did my final inspection.
