Plumbing Costs

An average price a homeowner can expect to pay for certain types of repairs to their plumbing system.

Plumbing costs are minimal when compared to the pain of not being able to use your fixtures.

Take a look at the average costs of some plumbing repairs by licensed plumbers.

  • Clogged Drains:

Being the most common of problems it is not the most expensive. Most plumbers can unclog a drain in an hour or less. Normally there will be no materials needed for this job. Expect it to cost between $100 and $150.

  • Broken Water Lines:

Most water line break can be repaired in less than an hour. The determining factor is the type of water line you have and if it is easily accessible. If you have CPVC or plastic it will be repaired much quicker than copper or galvanized. You can expect the repair to cost anywhere from $80 to $150.

  • Broken Drain Lines:

Again, if they are easily accessible you can expect the cost for material and installation to run from between $125-$250 depending on the size and type of pipe being replaced.

  • Leaking Faucet:

If you wish to repair a leaky faucet expect the repair to take about half an hour. The average prices should be around $45 plus the cost of the rebuild kit which normally is $10-$30. If the faucet is older it may be wise to purchase a new one and install it yourself. A plumber would normally get about $45 to install it for you.

  • Water Heater:

Replacing the element and thermostat in a water heater takes less than half an hour- draining the water heater in order to remove the element can add an additional 30 minutes . The average cost of repairing your water heater will be between $125-$175.

  • Toilet Repairs:

If the water to your toilet does not turn off you are wasting more money than the repair. An experienced plumber can stop a toilet from leaking in less than thirty minutes. The average price including materials is around $85.

  • Installing Dishwasher:

If you are replacing an existing dishwasher, the price will run around $125. If you are installing a dishwasher where there was never one your cost should be around $225. The dishwasher will cost extra.

  • Garbage Disposal:

Installation of a garbage disposal will run about $75-$100 including material. This does not include the cost of the garbage disposal.

  1. I charge $45.00 for drains and broken water lines $40 bucks an hour. And toilet repair $40 bucks an hour or flat seventy bucks if I change out the flapper and install a fluidmaster. This is labor only, plus what the parts cost. I have been a plumber for 28+ years and am licensed.
