Kitchen Cosmetics: Almond Scrub (Unscented)
by Arri London PhD on Mar 19, 2009 with 9 Comments
A gentle exfoliant made of natural ingredients.
Don’t make or use homemade cosmetics if allergic to any of the ingredients. Work clean: mixing bowls, utensils, hands and storage jars all need to be spotless. Small jam jars and lids which can be boiled are ideal. Store homemade cosmetics in the fridge; they don’t contain the preservatives and antimicrobials of commercial products. Use clean hands or a clean spoon to remove mixtures from containers. Don’t use on broken or irritated skin or near the eyes.
Ingredients
- 1 c ground almonds (or walnuts)
- 1 c ground plain oatmeal
- 1 c raw sugar
- 1 c fine sea salt
- 1/4–1/2 c almond oil (walnut oil, olive oil, cocoa butter, coconut oil); more if needed
Method
Place the oil in a clean glass bowl. Combine the oatmeal, sugar, finely-ground nuts and salt together in a separate clean bowl and mix thoroughly with a clean spoon. Add this mixture to the oil. Mix well. Add more oil if needed to make a spreadable paste. Store in clean tightly-covered glass jars in the fridge. Use within one month.
To Use
Scoop out a handful and rub gently onto clean damp skin. Repeat as needed. Rinse off with warm water.
