How to Turn Your Room Into a Personal Sanctuary of Peace

When we feel the need to relax and the urge to get in the mood of quiet reflection, we often require a calm environment.

According to healer and author Denise Linn “Our homes can provide us with the ideal place to take out, whether to cool down after a stressful day at work or get to the bottom of a relationship fall-out.” A cluttered and untidy home is difficult to use for relaxation or meditation because it makes us feel ill at ease.

You can turn your home into a haven. If you live in a shared house, simply apply these tips to your bedroom.

1. Make sure you only have items you either use or love in your home. So, if, for example, you’ve kept a book stand that you don’t like that was a gift from someone, give it away or better yet sell it in a garage sale. Getting rid of clutter means you’ll feel more relaxed and have more space, so you’ll be able to think more clearly.

2. Now create a shrine so your home has a specific place you can go to for quiet reflection. Place photos of special places you’ve been too– for example, a beautiful beach, people you love or anything else you find inspiring, such as a favorite celebrity. Next time you’re feeling uptight, perhaps after a bad day at work, light a candle at the shrine. Then sit quietly for a few minutes, concentrating on the pictures and letting go of the stress of the day. You’ll feel much more relaxed for the evening ahead.

3. Purple and lavender colors will promote a sense of peace around your home. Place a purple cushion in front of your shrine, or add a purple throw to the living room sofa or your bed. Another trick to feel good every morning is to frame your favorite quote and place it by the mirror in the bathroom so you read it everyday. This could either be a spiritual saying or a quote from someone you find inspiring.

Over time I have learnt this to be the most important room of your life.
It is were dreams are made, rest is obtained, gathering peace to cope with our days.
People have moved in the TV/laptops/games,and so forth interfering with flow…
