How to keep your bra’s, silks and lace clean

Most women like myself wear a bra and have a collection of silk and lacy garments, unfortunately the instructions for cleaning them are pretty vague. Some say take in to cleaners, other say gentle wash and some say wash by hand. The best way to keep you fancies in tip top shape is simply by washing them gently by hand after each use. Yes after every use, this is including our bra’s.

Believe it or not the truth is the more you wash your bra’s the longer it will last. As most of you know washing your delicates in the washing machine can distort and reshape your items, constant wear on items can also do this. By soaking your bra’s everyday you clean out built up skin cells that you have shed throughout the day, as well as sweat and odour. And, by hanging your items to dry will help retain the shape of your bra for much longer. This will also help preserve damage done to the clasps and hooks, and inner wire and padding.

The same rule applies to your silk teddies and slips. These items should be washed after they have been worn, then hung to dry or dries on very low gentle cycle with static sheets, hanging is recommended. For very dirty items or stained item first soak wash by hand and then if necessary wash on gentle cycle in your machine, again it it recommended to hand dry.

I know washing your bra everyday seems like a lot of effort, but really it only takes a few minutes and your bra’s and fancies will last so much longer. In the end you’ll only be saving your self money.

How to wash your bra

Fill a sink or wash bucket with luke warm to cool water.

Add 2 tablespoons of baking soda

1 -2 drops of gentle laundry soap, ie; Woolite, ivory,

               Or/ 1 drop of baby shampoo

**To get out tough stains rub water on stain and scrub gently with baking soda poured right on garment. Do this to keep lace white as well.

Wash gently inside cups and straps. Let soak for a few minutes, rinse with cool water, gently ring out and hang to dry. It’s recommended that women rotate bra’s every other day, so needless to say you should have at least to comfortable practical bra’s for everyday wear, and few others for hot steamy nights…
