There’s something about the addition of colorful flowers to a home that perks it up and gives it vitality. Seeing a bouquet of flowers when you come through the door can be an instant mood lifter. One of the most colorful and vibrant flowers in the floral world is the pansy. With their brilliant colors and expressive faces, they’re the perfect flower to add cheer to a home. Not only can pansies be used to decorate your home, they also double as décor for your food. Yes, pansies are also quite edible. Here are some ideas for decorating with pansies:
Home décor
Fill a vase until its almost overflowing and leave it on a table by the door. It’s the first site that will greet you when you walk in the door. What better way to lift your spirits? Place pansies into a big glass vase and use them as the centerpiece for a Saturday morning, summertime breakfast. There’s nothing that brightens up a table more. Tie bunches of pansies together with colorful ribbons to create brilliant nosegays. These can be easily placed into the pot of your choice and quickly moved around as the mood strikes. Press fresh pansies using a flower press and apply them to the surface of candles and card blanks to create colorful and unique greeting cards. If you don’t have a flower press, place the flowers between two sheets of waxed paper and set them in the center of a large dictionary. Close the book to provide the weight needed to create pressed flowers. Dry pansy petals and use them to create potpourri. Place a bit pot of pansies on the front porch to add a touch of color to the outside of your home. Press fresh pansies and glue them to a square of heavy card stock. After pressing, add a magnet to the back and use it as a colorful refrigerator magnet. The possibilities are unlimited.
Food
Before using pansies in your recipes, be sure they haven’t been sprayed with pesticides and they’re scrupulously clean. Make a fresh garden salad and layer the top with colorful pansies to create an instant gourmet vegetable feast. Decorate puddings, mousses and gelato with clusters of pansy petals. When you bake a cake, garnish the top and sides of it with pansy petals for instant color and appeal. If you’re serving a plate of chocolates or cookies, place them on top of a layer of pansy petals. Add pansy petals to your favorite fruit salad. Pansy petals have a very mild taste and wonderful visual appeal.
There’s nothing that brightens a home or stimulates the eye more than a collection of colorful pansies. Why not try decorating your home and food with the beauty of these special flowers?
