Are you looking for an inexpensive way to decorate your home? Here’s how to decorate with fruits and nuts.
Would you like to decorate your home on a budget? There’s no need to spend your hard earned money on expensive home décor to give your house a warm, homey feel. If you like the natural look, it’s easy to decorate your home with something as simple as fruits and nuts you buy at your grocery store. Here are some ideas for how to decorate with fruits and nuts:
Layer fruits and nuts in glass jars
This look is fun and inexpensive to create. Find a pretty glass jar that has a lid. The lid can be made of glass or cork both of which give a nice look with layered fruits and nuts. If you don’t have one already, buy one for a dollar or two at a garage sale. Next, pay a visit to a grocery store that has dried fruits and nuts you can purchase from bins. Select a variety of different dried fruits and nuts to form the layers in your glass jars. Some fruits and nuts that work well are dried cranberries, pineapples, figs, apples, dates, almonds, walnuts, hazelnuts, and pistachios. If you have a dehydrator, you can even buy fresh fruit and dry it at home. Once you have the fruits and nuts to work with, prepare a work space for creating your layered jars.
Start by applying a layer of nuts, followed by a layer of dried fruit. Keep adding layers of fruits and nuts until you reach the top of the jar. When you reach the top, tie on a pretty bow using raffia or another ribbon or cording that has a natural look. You can even glue some natural embellishments onto the center of the ribbon such as a pinecone or some greenery. These layered jars look wonderful setting on kitchen or dining room shelves.
Another tactic for creating layered jars is to collect your layers directly from nature. Take a walk and collect pinecones, acorns, various leaves, and other treasures from nature to place in your jars. Add some cinnamon sticks from your spice drawer and you have the makings of an all natural layered sculpture that didn’t cost you a thing.
Create a decorative base for a candle
Here’s another quick and easy way to decorate with fruits and nuts. Find a bowl large enough to hold a pillar candle. A glass or ceramic bowl should work well. Choose a pillar candle in a natural shade such as white of cream and anchor it in the bottom of the bowl. Once the candle is in place, fill the remainder of the bowl with nuts still in their shells to add a decorative base for the candle. These candle bowls can be placed on tables throughout your house or used as a centerpiece for your dining room table.
There are lots of other ways to decorate with fruits and nuts. You can make fragrant potpourri using dried fruits and nuts and place the potpourri in interesting dishes or you can use them to make an all natural wreath for your door. You can even use them to make hanging ornaments by drilling a hole in unshelled nuts and dried fruit and hanging them on cording. Use you imagination and I’m sure you’ll see how fun and easy it is to decorate with fruits and nuts.
