Maybe you’ve avoided complementary colors, but they work great if done right.
Everyone wants a room where all the colors are working together. I love color. Even whites (whites are colors). But if your scared about messing up, one of the simplest tricks is to use complementary colors! Green and Red, Orange and blue, and yellow and violet. Actually, anything oppisite of each other on the color weel are complements. Here is a color weel for your reference.

The thing that makes complementary colors go so well together is that they intensify each other. Here is an example of Blue Green and Red orange.

When your using complementary colors, dont overdo it. Complementary colors look well together in moderation, but too much can be overpowering and sometimes dorky.
Here is an example of yellow and violet.

In this bathroom, they used alot of one color, so they used little of violets complement, yellow.
I would say the only complementary colors that dont go perfect together are red and green. They just make you think of Christams of Mexico. My advice, dont use Fire Engine red against bright green. Use tints and shades of the two, and use in MODERATION. Somtimes, even subtle greens and reds together turn out splendid.

There are TONS of way to use color in a room, but a fun old trick is just pull out your complementary colors. Dont be scared of color! Dont let your paint brush dust!
