15 Unknown Uses for Epsom Salt

Magnesium, a major component of Epsom Salt, is vital for many bodily functions. Magnesium can be taken internally or you can get the same benefits from taking bath with Epsom salt. In addition to the health benefits there are other uses for Epsom salt.

  1. Eliminates Toxins from the Body

    Add two cups of Epsom salt to the water in a bath tub. Soak for 10 minutes at least weekly once. It relaxes your body and muscles, eliminates toxins from the body and reduces the swellings of sprains.

  2. Exfoliates Skin

    Sprinkle small amount of essential oil to Epsom salt and clean your skin. Or you can rub the Epsom salt directly on the skin to make it smooth and silky. Then rinse thoroughly.

  3. Athlete’s Foot

    Soaking in Epsom salt helps you relieve from athlete’s foot.

  4. Cleans Bathroom Tiles

    Take the mixture of equal parts of Epsom salt and liquid dish detergent and apply on the dirty places in bathroom.

  5. As a First Aid

    Mix a thick paste of Epsom salt with hot water and apply to get soothing comfort.

  6. Hair Conditioner

    Warm the mixture of equal amounts of conditioner and Epsom salt for 15 seconds. Apply this mixture through your hair from scalp to end; leave it for 15 minutes. Rinse with warm water; you can observe the natural glow in your hair.

  7. Removes Foot Odor

    Mix half-cup of Epsom salt in warm water and keep your feet for 10 minutes. This soothes achy feet, removes bad odor and softens the rough skin.

  8. Keeps your Lawn Pleasant

    Add 2 tablespoons of Epsom salt to a gallon of water and sprinkle this water on your lawn to keep the grass green.

  9. As a Fertilizer for your Houseplants

    Sprinkle Epsom salt weekly once to nourish your houseplants, flowers and vegetables.

    Dissolve 2 to 3 teaspoons of Epsom salt into a cup of water and drink twice to get relief from constipation.

    Take half a cup of boiling water. Add a teaspoon of Epsom salt and 3 drops iodine. Apply this mixture to the black heads with a cotton ball three times.

  12. Prevents Slugs

    Sprinkle some Epsom salt on the place where the slugs crawl to prevent their entry.

  13. As a Hand Wash

    Mix Epsom salt with baby oil and keep by the sink to clean your hands effectively.

  14. Regenerates Car Battery

    Dissolve an ounce of Epsom salt in warm water; add this mixture to each battery cell to give more life to your car battery.

  15. Treats Toenail Fungus

    Soak your affected toes in hot water mixed with a palm full of Epsom salt three times a day.

  12. Valli I have a question? I have been using epsom salt for my husband and I’s tired achy feet to soak in. Now he did a little reaserch and found out that it does no benefit to soak in. ALthough we have both heard for many many years thats what people used it for along with for a laxative. Now on the Epsom salt package it says for plant food, laxative and minor sprains and bruises.

    I was just wondering where you get your info from and how do we really know now. we are confused???

  16. As a pharmacy tech I have to warn about using Epsom salts as a laxative. Using too much could cause death. Before trying this, consult with your doctor or pharmacist, please.

  22. Epsom salt works great on tomatoes and peppers, and I will certainly be trying it on my other plants too. It’s like giving tomatoes and peppers steroids! The only difference is that it is totally pure and healthy for them, the environment, and when you consume them, you.

    I can’t tell you how many times I have read that there is no evidence that this or that works only to find out that it most definitely does work. Whatever the subject may be, research it thoroughly. Just because someone has impressive credentials or is claimed to be an expert doesn’t mean that what they are saying is true. Always keep an open mind and take the time to research it yourself, and consult multiple sources. I’ve learned sooo much from NOT listening to the so-called experts.

  24. i have had psoriasis on and off for years, and this winter has been one of the worst for it. (the cold dry air). I have been using the epsom salt bath for only a few times and notice my psoriasis almost completely gone. I recomend it for anyone suffering with any skin ailment. I have very dry, itchy scalp…and it’s going there next. I hope this serves useful for someone.

  27. There is an epsom salt council. They post all the ways epsom salt can be used, where it came from, and all the benefits. Do a search for the epsom salt council. SOAKING in the epsom salt is DEFINITELY useful. The magnesium sulfate that makes up the epsom salt, is easily absorbed into the skin.

If I become lethargic or aching joints I also mix 1/4 teas epsom salts & 1/4 teas Bi carb soda in 2 litres of water and sip during the day as my daily 6 glasses of water intake. It balances the body Ph as well. For those who may need to gently help constipation the ratio was 1/2 teas of each to 2 litres. We are each a unique creation and the body will let you know the correct amount so trial for yourself and let your body be your guide.

    1. For the first five days, take four glasses of apple juice every day. Or eat four or five apples, whichever you prefer. Apple juice softens the gallstones. During the five days, eat normally.

  37. epsom salt is also great for a new piercing. you mix it with hot boiling water 2 or 3 times a day, and it heals you piercing. This is mainly used for belly button piercings, and it takes about 6 months to completely heal. Hope this helps you belly piercers out there.

  40. I think this is one of the most important factors of epson salt that I would like to share. I had a cyst the size of an egg in the crack of my leg. I could not walk and cried it hurt so bad. I poured 2 cups of epson salt in a bath sat for 10 min and it finally popped I can walk again. So anyone that deals with cysts like I do take my word it works and gets rid of it fast.

  43. I have psoriasis on my hands and a little on one foot. My hands are very scaley and my fingertips will break out and bleed I have tried prescribed medicines and nothing seems to help. I need a good home remedy that will work as I’m tired of the crust on my hands, bandaging my fingertips and my hands are alaways very tender. glenn
