10 Extraordinary Uses for Duct Tape
Duct tape is something no household should be without. It has more uses than most people realise.
Duct Tape is heavy duty household sticky tape that can be put to many uses. Here are some of them.
- Use duct tape to stick the hem on your jeans up if they are too long. Denim tends to shrink in the wash so there is no point in hemming up thick denim material until you see how much shrinkage there is going to be.
- Remove hair and fluff from clothing with a piece of duct tape wrapped around your hand. It will lift every trace of it easily and can be used on furnishings too.
- Reseal packs of biscuits, potato chips, nuts, etc with duct tape. You can open and close the pack several times without the tape losing it’s stickiness.
- Duct tape will give you a good seal on a split vacuum hose. Simply wrap it around several times.
- Make a lasting, neat repair to the spine of a book with a strip of duct tape. You can also place strips on the cover to reinforce it.
- Red and yellow duct tape will fix a damaged tail light on your car until you get time to have it replaced
- Hockey players can use duct tape to tighten their shin guards. Tape over the socks.
- Silver, shiny duct tape can be used to insulate winter boots. Stick the tape around the insoles and the shiny side will reflect the heat up into your feet.
- Ripped outdoor clothing like nylon ski pants can be repaired with a strip of duct tape. It gives a strong, waterproof repair.
- Carry duct tape in the car. It will allow you to make a temporary fix to a leaking water hose, which will get you to the garage.

Do you know what? I don’t have any duct tape in my house. I’ll put it on my shopping list immediately.

I got duck tape for Christmas. I asked for it with a book of “crafts” you can make with it. Rather interesting. This article gave me a few good ideas on what to use my duck tape for.

Great article, Louie! I had to use it on my psychology book last winter when Macintosh took it outside and shredded it! My professor and classmates got a real kick out of it!!

Great article, Louie! There doesn’t seem to be an end to the uses of duct tape, does there? I buy it from a local Dollar Store and have every colour imaginable. Now I’m ready for any emergency.

Great list!
I have a two year old daughter and we love colored duct tape. I by a roll or two on every trip to walmart. I take her large diaper boxes and use the duct tape to seal and create great contrasting and colorful patterns on the boxes. She LOVES to stack them, position them into “forts” and put a sheet over them so she has her own space or tent. The fun she/we have with those colored boxes seem endless. I thought I’d pass this on. Thanks!

Louie, Louie…these are great ideas, but does anyone know how to REMOVE DUCT TAPE RESIDUE from cotton material? I recovered my kitchen chair seats about a year ago, using duct tape to secure them underneath. I’m removing them now but would like to save the material for something else. Any bright suggestions, anyone?
