10 Decorating Tips For The College Dorm Room

Here are some tips to make your college dorm your home away from home. Your space can be a comfortable, efficient and cozy place.

Does your college dorm look attractive and make you feel at home? Your room should be a place, where you can study effectively and have a place to relax. Space is limited in dorm rooms, so you must make the most of what you have. By making the most of your space, you can be more organized, efficient and happy!

Here are some decorating ideas to make your room feel like home.

  1. Bring your favorite bedding, comforters, pillows etc. from home, so you will feel comfortable and cosy. Remember, dorm beds are long, so you’ll need special sheets to fit the bed.
  2. If you need curtains, use a brightly colored sheet and put the curtain rod through the hem. This works great, since it adds lots of color and privacy.
  3. Need a table? Use a card table and cover it with a tablecloth to match your color scheme. Tie colorful ribbons on each corner of the cloth around the table legs.
  4. You’ll need a good lamp for studying. Those lava lamps and cube motion lamps look cool, but you’ll need something different for studying. A good full spectrum desk lamp with flexible gooseneck design, works very well.
  5. A bulletin board works great for tacking up pictures of family and friends, messages and keepsakes. It keeps them organized and helps to save space.
  6. Place some of your favorite books and magazines in a small wicker basket. This will give your space a warm feeling of home.
  7. Keep a laundry basket in the closet for dirty laundry. This keeps everything out of sight, when you have company and makes washday more convenient.
  8. Raise the bed with risers to make storage space under the bed. There are flat plastic storage tubs available, that will slide under the bed. They will help organize your possessions and keep them dust free.
  9. Use brightly colored plastic crates to store books, clothing etc. They can be stacked and arranged in many different ways to utilize your space.
  10. Every college student needs an alarm clock. It can be really cool looking, as long as it works!

A dorm room doesn’t have to be decorated with luxurious things. It’s important, that you have a quiet place to study, a place to put your feet up to relax and a cozy place to lay your head at night. It’s your own space, a home away from home!
