After the nails are taken out, there is the appearance of darken holes which helps it give the appearance of an aged piece. Moreover, an additional process is a cracked finish. A finish cracks as it dries so it gives the piece of furniture a supposition of being an aged piece. You can have the finish put on over the natural wood or have it applied over an existing stain or paint so it would augment that particular color or highlight.

The decision to have distressed furniture is an important one. You have to remember not all the furniture that is distressed will look exact. While you will be able to tell they are distressed, the characteristics of various mechanisms that were employed make it different from each piece.

You can choose to do the techniques yourself if you had the time or the inclination to do it. If you are a handy person, then this would be project you may enjoy as long as it is done in a well-ventilated area and your had the proper protective clothing.
