Sri Lanka &Ndash; &Lsquo;pearl of The Indian Ocean’

This describes my lovely country, by which I give location, whether, history, and so many things and I suppose this may help to the tourists or people who wish to visit countries.

Sri Lanka‘Pearl of the Indian Ocean’

‘Ravana Desh’, ‘Tambapanni’, ‘Taprobane’, ‘Serendib’ and ‘Ceylon’ are the sequence of different names used by various nations of the world, in different eras, to introduce this paradise island – Sri Lanka.

It is one of the smallest State exist in the Indian Ocean, positioned close to the south east of the Indian sub continent.

 

The island is located in the path of major sea routs, and also is a strategic naval link between west Asia and South East Asia. It lies between longitudes E 79  39’ & 81 53’ and latitudes N 5 54’ & 9 52’.

Breadth- 235 Km.                 Length- 435 Km.             Area- 65,610 sq.Km.

 

 

The island consists mostly of flat-to-rolling coastal plains with mountains rising in the central part.

Amongst these is the highest point Pidurutalagala, reaching 2,524

metres (8,281 ft) above sea level.

The climate of Sri Lanka can be described as tropical and warm. Its position endows the country with a warm climate moderated by ocean winds and considerable moisture.

The mean temperature ranges from about 17 °C (62.6 °F) in the central highlands, where frost may occur for several days in the winter, to a maximum of approximately 33 °C (91.4 °F) in other low-altitude areas. The average yearly temperature ranges from 28 °C (82.4 °F) to nearly 31 °C (87.8 °F). Day and night temperatures may vary by 14 °C (57.2 °F) to 18 °C (64.4 °F).[143].
